PS3 outsold Xbox 360 2:1 in JapanFor all ex-Microsoft, now EA Sports man Peter Moore's claim that the PS3 isn't doing too well in Japan, the latest sales figures from that country show the Sony has shifted a darn sight more next-gen consoles than Moore managed. According to Japanese games magazine publisher Enterbrain - by way of the Reuters news agency - Sony had sold 1.01m PS3s in Japan between from the console's 11 November 2006 debut there to 15 July 2007. The Xbox 360, which arrived in Japan in December 2005, almost a year before the PS3, has only racked up local sales of 420,705, between that date and 8 July, Enterbrain's numbers show. But Wii fans get the last laugh: the Nintendo console, the most recent of the three next-gen machines to launch in Japan, had experienced sales totalling 2.9m units as of 8 July, and may already have passed the 3m mark by now - or, if it hasn't, will do so in the very near future. So not only has it outsold the PS3 by almost 3:1, it's outsold the Xbox 360 by more than 7:1. Not that Moore minds much: according to US Securities and Exchange Commission filings from his new employer, he's getting $550,000 a year base salary plus $333,000 moving expenses and a $1.5m bonus for leaving Microsoft, though he'll have to stay at EA for two years to avoid paying it back www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/07/18/wii_wins_in_japan/

Sony's PlayStation 3 console sales top 1.0 mln in Japan - research firmTOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Sales of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc's PlayStation 3 video game console have topped the one million mark in Japan, since its launch last November 11, a survey by Enterbrain showed. Enterbrain is the publisher of 'Weekly Famitsu' that tracks video game console sales. It said 1.01 mln consoles were sold between Nov 11 to July 15. The survey covered sales from 3,500 shops. According to Enterbrain's previous survey published on June 5, rival games company, Nintendo (other-otc: NTDOY.PK - news - people ) had sold about 2.49 mln of its Wii consoles in Japan since they were launched last December. www.forbes.com/markets/feeds/afx/2007/07/18/afx3924642.html Yeah, took them a while, but finally they've crossed physiological 1 mil mark. Funny thing is, it costs about two and half times more than Wii, about same ratio with which Wii has outsold PS3. So gamers have spent about same amount on both systems. Nice to see it gather the momentum steadily like PS2 did back then. It has already outsold 360 in all territories except US, UK and Australia for the first week of July. And thats even before the official announcement of price cut and E3. Lets see what happens this week.

PS3 holds double-digit sales gains on EbaySony Corp.'s Playstation 3 held double-digit sales gains this week in the latest auction data from Ebay. Sales for the PS3 were up 18 percent in the past two weeks, the largest gain among all new consoles, including Nintendo Co.'s Wii and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360. The PS3 ranked as the No. 3 Most Popular video game hardware on Ebay, with an average sale price of $598.91. Sony last week lowered the price of the 60GB PS3 SKU in North America, which should spark additional movement in next week's sales. In addition, it showcased new titles at the E3 Media & Business Summit, including Heavenly Sword, Lair, and Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction. Sony has sold 1.4 million PS3 units in the U.S. to date. It expects to ship 11 million this business year. news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=4538

Just add a new HDD to the 60 G model if needed. There is no difference except for the size of the HDD.
I have no clue why people rush out to buy larger HDD models. I have noticed this with the 360 and now the PS3.. I have played 90% of all games released on the 360, am ranked in the worlds top 20 and have all my save info on my HDD and yet i have loads of room left. Save that extra cash for something more useful.
As for modding 360's i think many thieves/pirates learned a lesson with the last update. Theres more to come with H3 and the coming updates. Its best to stay legit.

Console and game sales the day after E3.Recent data gives light to Sony's claim of a doubling in their sales since their US$ 100 price drop. For the sales week ending on July 14 at least, sales for the PlayStation 3 rose 131%, more than double, outrunning the sales of the 360. The Wii rose by 10% but the Xbox hardly moved, selling only 1% more than the previous week. The Nintendo DS is enjoying a ginormous success; although sales slipped by 5%, you can hardly scoff at more than 97k units sold in a week. The PSP sold only 50k on the same week. It also looks like the top 5 games in Amazon last July 8 seems to be just as popular to non-online shoppers. The most popular games for each console is Wii Play for the Wii, The Darkness for the Xbox 360, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3. Still going strong for the Wii are Mario Party 8 and Resident Evil 4. Slipping into the 360's favor is Transformers, while Gears of War is almost out of the top 10 in 9th place. Transformers also made it to PS3's top 3, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas is still popular in second place. Of the total of 11,878,996 units of next gen consoles that have been sold in America, 55% of those are Xbox 360 units, 31.3% are Wii, and the PS3 accounts for 13.7%. Also, if the PS3 continues to sell more than the 360, and if the Wii continues its current pace, the 360 will be in for some tough times. wii.qj.net/Console-and-game-sales-the-day-after-E3/pg/49/aid/97971

so? dont prove much. doesnt REALLY matter. why do people believe that if the ps3 is sold out at xyz store its breaking news? people know its sales are picking up. we dont need constant corroboration. thats the whole POINT of being a fanboy! you know! you dont get told! and for those who arent fanboys can just get updates from consolewars.com (or .net). cheers
