confirmed Following up on the report that the PLAYSTATION 3 would see a $100 price cut taking place the week after E3 2007, GameDaily has confirmed with "a merchandising manager at one of the world's biggest retailers" that the 60 GB version of the PS3 will indeed drop to $499, starting on July 12, one day after Sony's E3 press conference. GameDaily also reports that the new price is indeed indicative a retail-wide price drop, not a Circuit City specific sale, as a handful of speculators have posited.

Nice. They'll also rule out 20gb model and keep 60gig as the only config for 500$. Then just before Halo 3, they can announce another price drop delivering one-two punch.

Microsoft can kiss their gaming venture going profitable, goodbye. They already estimated that the replacement warranty will cause them 1 billion officially, which can cost more unofficially.and if sony cut their prices ms cant just sit watching i.e more losses

if the normal 360 dosent sell in japan with all those free games, faceplates etc ,what makes you think that the more expensive one will sell, esp considering for 60 $$ more you get a next gen bluray player, built in wifi, card readers etc.

Profits are just their looong term goal. Who else will shell out a billion dollars just for replacements so that they can remain in competition ? Any other manufacturer would have bailed out loooong ago ! And the best part is - MS can afford the losses....they can even afford to cut $100 off their xbox 360 and still remain in business.....q is can how long can sony afford to keep losing money on their PS3?

Sony knows how to kill rumors that brings smiles on the faces of the gamers! Sony has confirmed that they have no immediate plans to reduce the price of the PS3. Rumors about a price cut of their next-gen console after American retailer Circuit City indicated that SCEA was to cut $100.
Ryoji Chubachi, President, Sony said in an interview in Tokyo, “We have no immediate plans as of now for price cuts. Any change in the console’s price ‘is a matter’ for Sony’s game unit, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.” Chubachi also said that Sony Corp’s main aim is to meet its operating margin target of 5 per cent for the year ending March 2008.
Whatever it is, price cuts for the PS3 are imminent and it wouldn’t be surprising if Sony comes with a press release that announced a reduction in price of their next generation gaming console.

So a pS3 price cut i s great thing N all.. but please dont conclude based on this MS will never make profits.. the 4th Q of 2007 come what may will be profitable for the 360.. that is why Halo 3 is being rel on Sep 26th just before their 3 Q accounts close

LOL for 60$ more a Blu ray player is all i get.. What else do you want ? You also get a wifi and a free online service. in US the 360 is reling and is beating the PS3 by 65000 consoles every week Where do you get your numbers from ? Microsoft.com ?? Check it out here.. www.vgchartz.com/aweekly.php?date=39250Difference is 28k and closing, not 65k. And Sony's other two consoles are stomping 360 in charts, PS2 is outselling 360 with steady 4000 to 5000 per week in US. that is why Halo 3 is being rel on Sep 26th just before their 3 Q accounts close This is the tragedy of Xbox. It has to be Halo again. Xbox would've been dead in water with out it. And now it'll take another Halo to salvage 360. One game is deciding fate of that console.

Has the price cut already been put into effect? Potentially, yes. One of our readers has let us know that he was able to get his hands on a 60GB PS3 for no more than $499.99 at a Target today. In our attempts to verify this we called the store he bought it from. They confirmed that the 60GB PS3 was, indeed, in the shop's system at the price of $499.99. Whether this is an error on the individual shop's part, with the price drop being put into effect early, we weren't sure. We are currently in the process of calling more stores nationwide, to see how isolated this event really is. We will update this post as and when we get more information. If true, then this is an excellent start for what promises to be an excellent E3. Already Microsoft's keynote is overshadowed by Killzone 2. A pricedrop by Sony before the event even starts only adds to the pressure. [UPDATE 1] A Kansas Target has the 60GB PS3 in its computer at $599 [UPDATE 2] Another tipster has told us that today they sold two at Circuit City at $499. Confused, the manager called it in and got a confirmation that it was correct. We are in the process of verifying this. [UPDATE 3] A Target store in Rancho Cucamonga in California has confirmed that the 60GB PS3 is in their system for $499. It looks like there's no pattern to which stores are and aren't offering the price cut. www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/06/ps3-sold-at-target-for-499-99/peace

PS 2 is a legend...what do u mean it has to be Halo 3 again .. when was is Halo bef for the 360 as far as i remeber last year it was gears that was a huge system seller which pushed around a million consoles over the shelf.. and gears has sold more copies than RFOM and Motorstrom combined... the 28 k u r talking is now when there arent any gr8 games coming out.. when Forza 2 was out you should have seen the difference.. and again you will see the difference when Halo 3 comes out... and if it wouldnt be for sony arrogance i am sure it would be ruling right now.. after alll GTA 4 and Assasins Creed weres supposed to be ps3 exclusives
