Well if I had a choice between GTA and Oblivion, I'd go for Oblivion. But I love GTA too. And I'll probably get Crackdown too.

I'm interested in what invictus said too. I mean it would be really great to turn my hobby into a profession. We need ideas!

I'm interested in what invictus said too. I mean it would be really great to turn my hobby into a profession. We need ideas! gaming is a good profession, only if you have the stomach for long hours, low pay, being a cog in the wheel for too long etc ! Game programmers are paid the lowest in the s/w industry, your DBMS friend would be getting almost twice as you....even the highest paid guy - executive producer gets paid around $100,000 PA ! Thats not such a big sal for such a high pos. And moreover dont expect to get into storyboarding, gfx desigining etc, as a starter you have to slog as a programmer for some incredibly loooooong time - maybe 10 yrs or so ! And one more imp thing is job security ! Gaming studios establish and vaporize within years....so be strong enuf to expect that as well ! Unless thats your hardcore passion, i wudn't recommend pursuing it as a career, developing games is not as fun as playing them Just my opinion !

yup hes right.... chk out how EA is notorious in having sweat shop like offices..... Developement and conept is given to very very hard core people in that field... i once was checking ID software(*gods*) site... it was clearly mentioned there... "we donot need concepts we have loads of them, we need people to make them happen. if u think u can program design a level using quake 3 source code(which was released then) or if u want to be in artwork side...design a character using the q3 engine and send it to us" i went back to my work after reading this. anybody?...Lets not forget that rest of the world is also FILLED with hardcore gaming fans who would love to make money and play at the same time...but somehow it never happens...... I was more interested in game producing part where in u have to liason with dev and distributor..n stuff...

Lets not forget that rest of the world is also FILLED with hardcore gaming fans who would love to make money and play at the same time...but somehow it never happens...... you know, most of these ppl are just some teenage modders who think, just becoz they can create a car mesh or change a guy's clothes, they have the capacity to create an entire game....it isn't true...! They'll run for lives when asked to deal with 3D maths, vector algebra and physics, which are very important for a game programmer, but which sadly never comes into anyone's mind. If you cant understand basics of cross product or dot product, then you are better off from this industry ! We have enuf game companies and enuf bad games already....and moreover with this gen of consoles the avg gaming costs are so high that indie game dev is almost nil ! Unless you have some publisher like ubisoft or EA to back up your project, rest assured you'll be left on the street to feed yourself ! If u want to be have a mgmt role in a gaming company, go for an MBA in US....then, join some gaming company as a marketing/sales prof and work your way up !

Yeah you guys are right. I know it's not easy... I am very happy with my career and my job right now and there's no way I can switch over completely to something else. It's just that I want to take my hobby a bit further. If there was a way to do that...
I tried my hand at 3D animation and stuff but I figured out that it wasn't for me quite soon...

We don't have one in Pune. I usually buy games from PlanetM, Landmark or Crossword. A few other stores do carry 360 games however. If there something I absolutely need to buy no matter what then it's eBay.in!
