With the current price cut and offer of 5 free HD-DVDs, I think my best bet would be to ask a friend in the States to buy the X360 addon and ship it out to me. Also considering that it can be hooked up to any Win XP / Vista PC, it makes a great deal of sense, since I will own 6 HD-DVDs (5 free ones + "300"). Hmmm,, any of you chaps off to the States anytime soon ??

7k ? really?? Yup, and they were giving it away free with Samsung 32" LCD. Better wait till Oct/Nov, there are loads of offers and sales during those festive months.

no on a hd format the movie is at a native 1080p res,so the output is crystal clear along with 5.1 or 7.1 the dvd still are at 480p and the player just upscales them to 1080p,so there is def a deifference. also the ps3 does the same thing, after the latest firmware update the standard dvd's are now upscaled to 1080p

In that case you will buy neither because the war is not gonna end in this console generation's life time.

Its not that simple. Unlike hd-dvd, blu-ray is also used for gaming. Many upcoming PS3 games like Lair are filling the disc upto brim. So even if blu-ray dies out in movie industry, it'll still continue to be around like UMDs. Sony made sure that by adding blu-ray drive in every PS3 and shipping every game on blu-ray discs.

one of the two things will happen 1) bluray wins 2) no one wins

^^ dont mind if tht happens.... but jus hope tht once pple start thinking tht both will live.... and go out and buy the player of their choice.... suddenly one of the two dont do something drastic tht shuns the other out of the race....
