Indian Spider-man:hey guys check out the Indian Spidey www.gothamcomics.com/spiderman_india/i knew about it long back as i read lots of comics b4.its 1st limited edition copy was available on advance booking b4 Jan.now its indian launch is on the horizon and many indian fans r eagerly w8ing for it!and dont be fooled by its Indian name as it has all d international standards of art and print.it will surely give other comics a considerable competition. "Gotham Entertainment Group, the Indian publishing licensee of Marvel Comics, is to launch a `desi' version of the Spider Man print edition, next month.
For Peter Parker, read Pavitr Prabhakar, leaping over scooters and auto rickshaws, swinging from monuments like the Taj Mahal and the Gateway of India, as he fights crime — and a local Rakshasa. ``We feel this is one of the most exciting projects in comic history,'' says Gotham Entertainment Group CEO, Sharad Devarajan. ``Unlike traditional translations of American comics, `Spider-Man India' will become the first-ever `trans-creation,' where we reinvent the origin of a Western property like Spider-Man so that he is an Indian boy in Mumbai and dealing with local problems and challenges.''
Jeevan Kang, the artist, has created a Pavitr with the familiar Spiderman red and blue skin-tight suit above the waist — and a tucked-in-for-action dhoti below.
While the multilingual Indian print editions are expected by end August, the `desi' Spiderman will also compete with the original on his home turf in the U.S., by year end. "cheers.

The entire thing stinks.
I read comics and from that point of view, the entire thing smacks of milk-the-spiritual-India-cash-cow dung.
Uncle Bhim? Aunt Maya?
The lack of originality is staggering! At least Chacha Chaudhry was original though the stories were appalling.
Jeevan Kang also had the audacity to rip off Alex Ross's artwork for the Indian spiderman (No offence to K'). Hmpf!
Oh well, at least India is in news for comics.

abey when it comes to creativity, it is lacking in the indian entertainment industry....movies, songs, comics, etc are all rips of some original work done earlier...!!

Dude, no one is denying Jeevan Kang has talent. But ripping off Alex Ross is criminal!! The main problem with our country is that we need everything frackin customised to our needs which kills the creativity of the original artist. We need Cartoon Network dubbed in Hindi so that people can enjoy it, we need MS to come up with Yuvraj Singh Cricket (which BTW is a fracking rip-off) so that people here will appreciate Xbox. I'll run out of examples here but I hope you get the point. There could have been a much better way of promoting Indian comics than taking on one of the most popular characters in comic book history but Nooooo, they need to plagiarise everything (though this is with consent of Marvel).
