ESPN STAR Sports have gotten into an agreement with EA to bring “Game”, the first-ever gaming program produced in the region for Pan-Asian audiences. The show, which went on air on April 18, will telecast in major Asian countries including India. Drinie Aguilar is the presenter of the 30-minute weekly programme.
GAME will have latest news, extensive reviews, event reports from around the world, and previews of the hottest forthcoming titles. It will feature content, which brings gaming and real-life sports closer together with segments like behind-the-scenes features, stories about top athletes and their favorite games, and exhilarating match-up simulations that forecast the result of some of the world’s biggest sporting events by using real sports games by EA SPORTS. There will also be an assortment of adrenaline-filled games from different genres and publishers.
Here are the details of the GAME show timings:
STAR Sports Asia - China, Korea Wednesday, 7.30pm
STAR Sports Hong Kong - Hong Kong Wednesday, 7.30pm
STAR Sports India - Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka Thursdays, 8.00pm / Fridays, 8.30pm
STAR Sports Singapore - Singapore Wednesday, 7.30pm
STAR Sports SE Asia - Brunei, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand Wednesday, 7.30pm
ESPN STAR Sports Taiwan - Taiwan Friday, 4.30pm
Jon Niermann, President, EA Asia Publishing said, “We are very enthused about the launch of this new program. EA and ESPN are already collaborating for in-game integration of ESPN broadcasting, and this pan-regional initiative in Asia Pacific will go a long way to help grow our blockbuster EA SPORTS franchises among Asian consumers and raise visibility for the brand.”
Bernard Stewart, VP & GM, ESPN Asia Pacific comments, “We are delighted to be able to extend our partnership with EA into new markets after our successful collaboration in the US. With ESPN STAR Sports’ leadership in Southeast Asia and ESPN network’s presence in Australia and New Zealand, our Pan-Asian initiative is one more example of our capability to add value to our partners around the world.”
Charles Less, senior VP, advertising sales (SEA), ESPN STAR Sports explains, “We are thrilled to have EA on board as a presenting sponsor to collaborate on this innovative genre of sports entertainment. By leveraging our pan-regional reach, we are sure this partnership will address the needs of our client and provide them with the right avenue and platform to reach their target audience. ESS reaches out to a huge market of sports enthusiasts in Southeast Asia, and through “Game”, this partnership is certain to expand our reach to more viewers for sports entertainment by leveraging on the synergy between sports and gaming.”
It was a long time due that a major sports channel like ESPN came out with something like this for the Asian and Indian audiences. There are game shows like Gamer.tv, which is aired on TEN Sports from quite a long time. I hope ESPN Star cover local gaming tournaments too.
