I'm still undecided whether to keep this board private and filter all membership requests OR to throw it open to all and sundry. Obviously both have their pros and cons. I'd love to know what you all think.

i think we should give any1 access...if they misbehave, we have the power....i think every1 however annoying should have access to the info here...if they get outta hand, we know what to do

Leave it open. Spammers and troublemakers can simply be locked out.

the flipside is: an open board won't allow us to have sections like 'underground' where we can discuss topics on modding/hacking, exchanging gamesave data, etc

Hi guys. I think it's great idea that we have this forum. As for the forum i think we should keep it private and have sub-sections and like vinitwins said it's better to filter out each membership request. That way, we can differentiate between the real contributors and spammers.

I've opened the forums so that guests can read messages posted in all sections of the board (except Underground).
You still need to be a registered user to reply/start new threads. And all new registrations need to be approved by a Staff member.

I think it should just be kept open ... mods can kick/ban ip of spammers anytime, so I dont see a problem there !! Sharing and Caring's the mantra

I think it would be better if u didn't have to get approved, because what's the use? I mean someone registers (we obviously dont noe them) , u have to accept him but u accept directly because well his new. It would be better if u just registered and there finito ur in!

you are correct. the registration process needs some thought. right now we accept almost everybody (except a few IPs, email addresses that are known to us) so it's easy for someone unwanted to gain access as well. maybe you guys could suggest an alternative, since the only real way to screen new members would be to compulsorily ask them to fill in personal details which we would then have to verify manually. that's not practical. anyways, we're not selling trade secrets here, so... The system we have in place now is fine. Only registered members should have access to cretain sections which are otherwise locked. The approval system is not foolproof but it still helps keep out some unwanted people. I access the site at least twice every hour so approvals are pretty quick.

other way around is we make this site open to all except a certain section or two and once the member has say around 100 posts we'll open those sections to him too, also people the admin and mods know can be cleared for all access ri8 from the startup
