Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced that Michael Owen, the Newcastle and England striker, is to feature on the UK packaging and promotional materials of PES 2008 – the latest incarnation of the multi-million-selling Pro Evolution Soccer series.
Michael Owen is one of the most exciting and prolific strikers in the English game, and will join Cristiano Ronaldo on the UK packshots of PES 2008. Since making his first team debut in 1997, Owen has built a reputation for pace and skill, netting over 178 league goals, and 37 for England. His reputation spans the globe, making Michael the perfect compliment to Cristiano Ronaldo’s status on the world stage, and creating an enviable pairing for the new game.
“PES 2008 is a fantastic game, and the only choice for pro players,” added Michael Owen. “It enjoys a brilliant reputation within many, many players and manages to be a true simulation of football while also being a real laugh to play. I look forward to working closely with Konami in the run up to launch, and being a key part of its development.”

Next months French edition of PSM3 will have some information and possibly new images of PES 2008. The magazine cover states "Enorme: on a joué au PES Next-gen et on vous fait la totale" translated to english meaning "Enormous: we played PES next-gen and we will show you all". Well we all can't wait to see what they have seen and played and possibly any new scoop they may have on the game and the highly anticipated changes to the Master League. The magazine is set for release on the 25th of July, so stay tuned as we are sure to have some scans and translation of the article thanks to our French associates! www.winningelevenblog.com/peace

"In an emergency update, news has filtered through from various magazines regarding PES 2008! First of all is the inclusion of Ghana and Ivory Coast, both now fully licensed. More interestingly, the magazine also hints that diving is now a new feature in the game! Im sure it's a feature that many will be unsure about, but if implemented well it could benefit the game moving forward. Hint to Konami: Look at how This Is Football used it. A lesson in how NOT to do it! Along with this, another magazine has told readers of more new features coming our way. Coming from German PC magazine Gamestar, it confirms a few things the PlayStation mag spoke of including a few extras. Here is a run down: - 3 Buttons combination to press for a dive. - Very difficult to dive, because the referee's often give you the yellow card. - Gameplay and Passing faster. - Shooting is better/harder. - No difference between PC/Xbox 360/PS3 version. - Licenses for Fenerbace and Sao Paulo. - No Black screen after fouls. - Player profiles with stats. Cheers to The Power from evo-web for that. Right now nothing has been 100% confirmed so we're going to hold our judgment. Just a hint though, take the diving news seriously "

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 "A paradise for cheaters"
Lack of sportsmanship as a feature in the football-simulation Pro Evolution Soccer was believed to be impossible for a long time, but now in the version PES 2008 it has come: the players may cheat with consent of the developers. Because if you press 3 of the 4 shoulder-buttons of your gamepad, the kicker lets himself fall to the ground. If you do it cleverly, you get a free kick or a penalty. If you are less gifted with your finger-skills, the ref shows you a yellow card. A festival for cheaters! Allegedly it is only coincidence, that Cristiano "dive-king" Ronaldo will decorate the cover of PES 2008.
You may ask, where have we got these info from? Two weeks ago we visited the sales department of Konami in Frankfurt and convinced ourselves for hours of the quality of the Japanese title using the PC Version. Our impression: fantastic! Especially neat: you don't need to be afraid of eye-cancer any more, for the PC-version is based on the high-definition visuals of the consoles. In plain language: finally a decently high grade of detail, flapping shirts, grass-leaves and even emotions on the kicker's faces. The playability is first class as always, the master league-mode has been pimped by the makers and a new playing-mode, in which you control one single player and accompany him during his career adds more variety. We are enraptured!

The new Playstation Official Magazine is not in stores yet but W.E.N.B. managed to get it early (thank Adam). Nothing major to report and it just shows the same images that we have covered here previously. But for all our beloved viewers' we always strive to cover everything that comes out about the game. Its a simple one page article that re-states everything that we already know about the game. Coverage over the last couple of weeks has covered alot of new details. One thing that we picked out from the article was the following: "In addition to this, the ridiculous number of editing tools - want to recreate your new $178 Nike T747 Zoom Swoosh Gatorbreakers? Go right ahead - mean you can spend hours creating Hull City's youth squad, should you so please."We're guessing that means a really in-depth edit mode that alloys you to customize pretty much anything you want in the game. Options files will be a joy for this one, I can bet you that especially since patching is impossible at this moment of time. But... oh yeah, I forgot you guys want the scan! Here you go boys. - WENB this right here is the main reason to get the PS3 version....option files....for those looking for licensed teams, realer looking faces....even if konami doesnt do it, some one else will and you'll be able to download it onto ur PS3 HDD peace

We reported to you earlier in the week that there is a chance that the "Fantasista" mode would not be coming to the Next-gen versions of PES 2008. It seems that the mode is currently absent from the game at this stage and therefore looks unlikely that it will be in there. This however is information gathered from Beta copies of the game on Xbox 360 and PC platforms. It may be the case that Konami want to keep the "Fantasista" mode unique to the PS2.
The PS2 version of PES 2008 will also include the Challenge mode as well as the Scenario mode that many people are looking forward to. However, missing from the PS2 version is the Diving feature. It seems this feature will only be integrated into the Next-gen versions of the game. At this stage the game has not gone GOLD (Final Production Copy) so the game is subject to change. But stay tuned and the W.E.N.B. will keep you updated.
- WENB
a little strange that there are no PS3 beta copies out there.....could be a good thing (better than 360, PC versions) or a bad thing (still working on it, possible delay)
also strange that the PS2 version has features that arent in the nextgen versions

Preview of PS2 version Our dear friends over at Level7.nu have sent us a link to their preview of the PS2 version of PES 2008. I would like to thank Erik Hansson for sending me this Preview. The article is in Swedish so it will be difficult for most of our viewers to read, but we have a little summary in English. Also thanks to Sinan Akdag we have a full English Translation, I'm sure its not easy translating from Swedish to English but Its fantastic work. Here is the link to the article: www.level7.nu/texter/read.php?id=145097Summary of Preview: - New and Improved commentary - Better passing and first touch - A lot of new animations - Easier free kicks - Community - new game mode that lets you track stats, cups and leagues for you and your friends while playing each other. - World Tour - new game mode with mission based matches against random teams. Win without running offside against Morocco. Defend a lead against Costa Rica. Etc. - New, lousy music in the menus. - No improvements of Master League at all as far as I could tell without being able to save in this version of the game. - Full English Translation At The Bottom It has been much publicized that this years PS2 game will be a new experience with fully reworked animations and new game modes. This preview supports this even more. However, very disappointing that there were no changes in the Master League up until that point. Every year, the fans hope for some changes to the Master League so lets hope Konami do make some changes before release. -WENB peace

PES 2008 screenshots leakedThanks to a tip from DAN GRIBBON a legendary W.E.N.B. regular, some fantastic images of PES 2008 were released today on Scandinavian site Pelaajalehti.com. The images however were removed within the first half an hour of going up. But we managed to nab you some stuff from it. We got a translation of the article: "The 360 version is a marked improvement over last year's game. The edit mode is back and while this is still an preview version, the rosters of the 360 build are, by PES standards, incredibly up to date. The presentation is all new and still ugly, but there's tons of music now so you don't have to listen to a single song while messing about in the interface. There's lots of new little touches like when you pause the game you see your bench and the coach all agitated in a small window. English commentary sounds markedly better than before too. The game looks far better in motion and overall than last year's 360 version, which I didn't want to play at all. The pitches, the grass, look far better as do the players. The PS2 preview code is incredible though... it's got a rock solid super smooth frame-rate, though it looks the same as last year." So there you have it, sort of a little preview of PES 2008 running on the 360. But i'm sure you're all waiting for the images. Well here they are (Click To Enlarge): www.winningelevenblog.com/the screenshots look very impressive.....still surprised that we havent seen any PS3 previews yet peace
