Despite the Wii becoming the fastest selling new console in a decade, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter feels “it still seems to be the year of the PS2” as Wii shortages look set to continue until 2009.
Pachter’s comments come on the back of large PS2 hardware and software sales throughout March, in which 280,000 PS2 units were sold, compared to 259,000 Wiis, and God of War II became the No1 title of the year so far selling 833,000 copies.
”Notwithstanding all of the other choices, consumers keep buying PS2 games, with barely any drop off. Virtually all of the year-over-year growth is attributable to a slower than expected decline in PS2 software sales,” he said.
Pachter believes that next generation consoles won’t come to the fore until supply issues are addressed and more system selling titles are available.
