i think it might be a one off(atleast i hope so),region free games are the way forward. why would u say that? sony has been filing lawsuits and putting companies in asia out of business for selling PSPs and games to europe.....i'm sure theyre the last people to think that region-free is the way forward....although i hope it were true, im so confused peace

But there is also a email exchange between Midway and Videogamesplus.ca which shows that PS3 games are NOT region locked.
BTW, Sanjoy, Kotaku post does not prove anything because Kotaku has used the Midway board as the source for the information (as has PS3fanboy.com).

Let's put it this way: There is some hope till the official announcement comes.
And if it is region locked, I sympathise with the people who have preordered an import version.

If the movie cover has no info behind it, then it is usually region free. And no one has released PS3 games with region locking. So it is unknown if they'll follow the blu-ray region system or a traditional one. If they go with blu-ray regions, then that's perfect for us since US and SE Asia/Japan are on same region.

The Weinsteins and Genius Products, their home video partner, are very forward thinking on this issue, I have to say. We approached them not knowing their plans for their own re-release of "Hard Boiled" at the end of July. To protect them against worries of cannibalizing their release we did two things:
1. We contractually limited the total number of units we would produce to a set number. I can't tell you the number beyond the fact that it's a six-figure quantity, and this works to make the Special Edition a real collector's item--hopefully a part of videogame history in that it's the first ever SKU to have a game and film on the same disc. 2. The film can only play/launch on a Sony Playstation 3 game system, not from a dedicated Blu-Ray player. This means a videophile can't buy this for their Blu-Ray player; it's going to be a gamer who is passionate about this SKU.
We used the master digital tape from the film print and then ourselves converted it to support all HD resolutions, including 1080p. It's really the storage capacity of Blu-Ray that makes this pairing possible, and it's still a compelling product
As mentioned above, they also made this bundle region protected. Bad news for folks who live outside the States! Yes, I understand that they did this due to the movie's territorial rights, but that still does nothing to muffle the giant sucking sound

but that still does nothing to muffle the giant sucking sound Yeah, like the sound your avatar is making while sucking on that cancer stick. But seriously, I cant fathom why Sony would want to make a move like this now, especially since things are actually looking rosy for them. You would think that after all the mis steps and elementary mistakes made by Sony since the PS3's announcements and launch, they would now try to ensure that every step they make is thought out in its entirety, considering every angel and aspect. But noooooo, they dont learn, do they ?

they had to region-code the movie as a rule...so maybe they couldnt region-code the movie and game separately so they locked the entire BR disc to one code....hopefully they arent starting a trend with this....damn midway, damn them to hell
