I love the Demo! Its fantastic. My overlord Demo Hands-onThe Game starts you off with a humorous cut scene, its pitch black but you can hear voices, then you see these brown-undead-ugly-bunny-like creatures clear away rubble until you can see perfectly into the room, they then rub acid into your eyes to get you up. It then cuts to the minions accepting you as their overlord and suiting you up in some bad ass armor- reminiscent of Sauron in the first lord of the Rings. You then jump into the game itself, where you're introduced to one of those small minion creatures. He's dressed a bit differently and acts as your guide throughout the game. he introduces a few basic techniques such as summoning minions and then leads you upstairs. where you practice controlling your minions. The objective being to put an out of control jester in its place (who spits verbal insults at you whenever you come close). After this you're led back into your tower. A Base of operations, which at the moment is rag tag and a bit shoddy. But with upgrades it'll be one formidable tower of Evil. You're then led to the tower portal and learn that the "Tower Heart" is missing and you must retrieve it. This is where the fun begins. You jump into the portal and quickly summon a few minions (very rapid very easy) and they follow you wherever you go. Controlling your minions is quite easy, you just sweep them about with the right analog stick. Its quite satisfying to watch your minions sweep into a house, hear things breaking, support columns crumble and see the roof cave in, as your minions escape carrying loot back to you, Lifting it up in the air at your feet and saying something like "This is for you master". Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But dont think you can sit back and relax. You also get one bad ass Axe with which you can help your minions in combat with, although what the overlord is best suited for is magic. Throw a fireball into a field of wheat and watch as the crops catch fire in a grand blaze. Not to sound too sadistic, but its very satisfying to watch your enemies burn to a crisp (Overlord brings out the evil in you). The game's visuals are pretty good, there can be some improvements but even if this was the final game, The graphics would still be quite visually impressive. My only gripe with this game is the camera. While the camera is pretty good, I just wish there was some form of camera control, Although rarely does the camera get in the way of any action, Playing other third person games like gears or Prince of Persia, the lack of camera control feels like a handicap. The overlord's melee combat is also a bit dull, with only one attack move, but this I think is only a minor inconvenience as the magic and minion control more than make up for it. Overall this game, is a refreshing change from alot of the unoriginal games that have been coming out. The humor, original gameplay , good visuals and ease of control make this an instant winner. If you haven't downloaded the demo...then what are you waiting for? Get going! Whatever the case, I'm not waiting till it comes here or if its region free . Im getting this from game.co.uk This game is way too cool to pass up. |
