April 23, 2007 - This morning, CVG posted a news story claiming that at a European Microsoft event, Mass Effect was given a release date of September. Fans, of course, immediately began to panic. Before you get in a tizzy, know two things: Firstly, this date may only refer to the European release (so if you live in Europe, perhaps you should set yourself on fire and run around screaming); secondly, a release date has not been confirmed for any region. On the official Mass Effect message boards, BioWare itself claimed that September is not the official target date. Chris Priestly, BioWare Community Coordinator posted the following in response to the rumors: "We do not yet have a release date. When we do have a release date, we will make it known here on the boards." Microsoft gave a similar response, stating: "We have not made any official announcements regarding release timing for Mass Effect. At this time, any information about the game's release date is purely rumor and speculation." xbox360.ign.com/articles/782/782633p1.htmlpeace

BioWare "can't commit" to Mass Effect date
RPG developer extraordinaire BioWare has declined to commit to a release date for its 360 sci-fi epic Mass Effect, despite CVG's exclusive report last month that the game is heading for a September release.
The word form BioWare comes from the company's latest IGN blog update, in which it attempts to answer a handful of the community's biting questions. "What's the release date?" One post asked. "Well, we're still at a stage where we can't commit, but stay tuned for future updates!"
CVG learned last month that the game has been penciled in for a September release, months after the long-speculated June/July dates.
However despite what our sources tell us Microsoft is expectedly keeping quiet on the matter. "We have not made any official announcement regarding release timing for Mass Effect. At this time, any information about the game's release date is purely rumor and speculation," a company spokesperson said.
BioWare's latest recently picked up one of the first CVG Most Wanted awards because, well, we can't bloody wait to get our hands on it.

delayed again??
The biggest UK games retailer GAME have updated their listing for Mass Effect and have changed it to January 2008. They sent an email round to all those who have the game on pre-order letting everyone know the changes to the game that was expected in two months time. Are they out of their minds, or closer to the truth than we may think?
Mass Effect’s release date has been talked about a lot, rumoured to be coming in five different months. This new ‘revelation’ makes it the sixth month to be mentioned. There is also a debate in our forums as to whether or not it will ship by September, lingering with Halo 3 on the shelves. Today’s news confirms absolutely nothing, however it is important to remember that retailers are quite well informed.
Of course, to swing this around again: could it be an EU delay only? There’s a whole load of text that will need translating into a million different languages here on the European continent; it could easily slow down the release.
This is all rumours, and everyone is currently speculating, so make of it what you will. If the game does ship this year, chances are it will be after Halo 3…

That and the distribution problem.
