^^ Well I dunno about that... they are very different games from different genres. Mass Effect is something which will be pretty slow. You'll be spending a lot of time talking to people and exploring rather than shooting stuff. From what I know so far it'll be more like KOTOR and KOTOR 2 except that the combat will be real time (and thank God for that!). As for Halo it's sole objective is to shoot everything that stands in your way. They're definitely aimed towards different crowds.
In the end Mass Effect is the one which will provide a great single player experience. The only saving grace of Halo (after people are done with the single player components) has been the multiplayer. And this year even that has major competition from games like UT3, Quake Wars and Shadowrun. Besides GOW, GRAW and R6V are still multiplayer favorites.
I've seen many people here find Oblivion to be boring. In fact for an RPG it's pretty easy to get into, there's a lot more combat compared to other games in the genre. I'm sure Mass Effect will be much more difficult and complex than Oblivion. So guys if you didn't like Oblivion please don't get Mass Effect and spread negative feedback!
So Umang stick to your twitch shooters! invictus, welcome aboard buddy!

Y'know earlier RPGs used to be RPGs and shooters used to be shooters, these days the lines between the two are getting blurred. In this respect we now have three types of gamers:
The hardcore RPG nerds who hate combat and prefer clicking and queuing up commands rather than using their controller/mouse skills to kill the enemy. They prefer the slow character building, increasing stats, upgrading skills and conversations with NPCs.
The twitch shooter fans who excel at headshots in Counter Strike but buy a game like Oblivion only because it "looks" cool and get disappointed by all the talking, travelling and RPG character building.
The RPG *AND* shooter fans (like me) who enjoy both role playing and real time combat.
Bottomline... only the people in the last category will enjoy Mass Effect...

MAN!! HOW DO U GUYS GET TIME TO PLAY THESE LONG GAMES AND ACTUALLY FINISH THEM? ??!!!!! HOW PPL?? TELL ME UR SECRETS!! MUCH NEEDED!! That's the first mistake you're making! Playing an RPG is not about "finishing" the game like most other non-RPG games. It's about getting lost in an alternate reality for a few hours every now and then. I like pretty much all genres of games except maybe sports games and RPG is my favorite. Think about it, when you playing a shooter it's pretty monotonous. You are constantly shooting for the 10-15 hours of the game without much else. Even a great game like GOW eventually boils down to "enter and area, clear out the bad guys, move to the next area" stuff. In an RPG there's so much more to do. You can actually choose what path you want to take. Whether you want to fight or sneak or talk your way out of the situation. Makes the game so much more fun!
