Star Wars: Force Unleashed to come out November 2007 for 360 and PS3
Thanks to the latest Game Informer isssue, we get a few more details about the upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 title, Star Wars: Force Unleashed. Besides the November release date, we also learn a lot more about the story. The game’s story will fit in between Episode III and Episode IV and have something to do with Vader sending an apprentice to take down the rest of the remaining Jedi, I think. My “reading jacked up Babelfish translations” skillz are a little lacking, I’ll admit. Here’s what the German site says:
"Darth Vader recognized that the Imperator had clean-put in, when it pulled into on the dark side of power. Vader knows however that it is too late, to turn around. The only possibility is to destroy the Imperator with another apprentice: This role takes over the player.
The action builds Wars episode V on the dialogue from star - The Empire Strikes bake up, when Vader said to hatch that he than the Imperator become stronger and could him fall."
So to me, that means Vader realizes that there were some jedi left but he can’t do too much about it now, so he needs to send you to finish the job. The game-engine Lucas Arts is using for this title is called the Eurphoria engine and it takes some load off of the artists and developers since the engine can dynamically alter geometry, calculating how it should look after a certai event takes place, like you force-smashing a Stormtrooper into it. Usually, the artists would have to do up a non smashed version, and then a smashed version, or a different smashed version for each way it could break. Not so with this Euphoria engine.
Apparently, at the onset of the game, you start off as a trained Sith, complete with a sheet load of force powers as your disposal. As time progresses, those powers grow even stronger, giving you new abilities the Emperor doesn’t even have. Controlling your powers will work similar to how the controls worked in the PS2 game Psi-Ops. I don’t know what that means since I never played it, but if you did, you’re one step ahead.
In Force Unleashed you’ll have Rancors under your control as will as maybe even Vader. Sure, you’re thinking that you know how this story ends, so why play? Because this time, the ending may be different. Apparently Lucas Arts is thinking about throwing in a few alternate endings, just to spice things up.
Overall, it sounds pretty kick ass. Multiplayer (which it will have) will be down right awesome with everyone throwing each other around. We can all look forward to playing this one later this year. I’m very interested in seeing this engine in action.
