www.psu.com/node/7614?s=3a6dbb4dd7225fad02e71e720dbea252Virtua Tennis 3 online on Xbox 360
It seems that Virtua Tennis 3 will feature online multiplayer for the first time in the series, but only on Xbox Live.
It was announced back in October by Sega Europe that a multiplayer component would not feature in the PlayStation 3 version of the game. It followed the news that Tony Hawk's Project 8, by Activision, would suffer the same fate.
The Xbox 360 version of Virtua Tennis 3 will include singles and doubles matches, both ranked and friendly and in exhibition mode or organised tournaments.
"We're striving to create games which not only have great gameplay but also can make the very most of the Xbox 360's amazing technology," said Sega's creative director, Matt Woodley.
Microsoft's one year headstart with its latest console seems to have given it a significant advantage in the online space. Developers appear to have learnt the ins and outs of Xbox Live and are providing great experiences across most Xbox 360 games. Unfortunately, Sony has been playing catchup in a lot of areas with the PlayStation Network, not just with online gaming.
The title, developed and published by Sega, is released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in March.

With 1080p now available to Xbox 360 users, it was only a matter of time until 1080p titles became available. Sega have today announced that Virtua Tennis 3 will launch with support for 1080p graphics, a brand new VT:TV live spectator mode and for the first time in the franchise’s history, allow players to compete with gamers from around the world on Xbox Live. Virtua Tennis 3 Here is a snippet from the official Sega press release:
For the first time, Xbox 360 gamers can experience high-definition 1080p graphics on their console with Virtua Tennis 3. With the highest digital video standard enabled on the Xbox 360, each of the 20 tennis pros featured in Virtua Tennis 3 appear even more realistic, while the court environments deliver a newfound richness in colour and texture. The increased levels of detail can be picked out in the spectators and backgrounds, and despite the increased number of pixels on screen, the smooth gameplay mechanics and movements of the players are just as fluid as ever.
The online gameplay for Virtua Tennis 3 consist of a number of features set to make the most of the Xbox Live network. Players can take part in Ranked or Friendly modes, and enter Exhibition games or Tournaments in both singles and doubles matches across the Live network. The all new VT:TV real-time spectator mode allows players to view their friends or other top-ranked players compete in tournaments, adding an all new strategy in sizing up the next opponent.
Commenting on the game, Matt Woodley, Creative Director of SEGA stated “Virtua Tennis 3 on Xbox 360 is definitely the next generation of tennis. We’re striving to create games which not only have great gameplay but also can make the very most of the Xbox 360’s amazing technology.”
Always wanting to go one step further than Sony, George Peckham, general manager, global third party publishing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft added “We’re thrilled to be able to say that Virtua Tennis 3 will be coming to Xbox 360, showcasing an online experience with Xbox Live that you won’t find on any other systems and spectacular 1080p graphics.”
With only one month to go until the games release, we’re looking forward to getting our hands on this one, it’s shaping up to be an ace! www.xboxic.com/news/2362#more-2362

On the Xbox 360 version, he explains that it "will absolutely feature natively rendered graphics in 1080p." But of course, after all, they did develop this game, from the characters to the environments, specifically with the next-gen platforms in mind. And having VT3 on Microsoft's next-gen means that it's also gonna be up on Xbox Live. Exciting is how Kaminski describes the experience of playing it on Xbox Live. You can enter into tournaments or casually challenge people to a single match. I think what really makes the Virtua Tennis 3 online offering so interesting is the VT:TV feature. It's an enhanced version of spectator mode, which serves a couple of great purposes... Secondly, you have the ability to watch the matches of the top one hundred players world wide, or keep an eye on how any of your friends are doing in their matches. Moving on to Sony's Blu ray of sunshine, he says that it most certainly will feature motion sensing controls. In fact, they are very excited to use the console's SIXAXIS feature for this version. "It's quite cool to play an entire match of tennis without ever pressing a single button on the controller!" And what of the PSP? Will it essentially be just a lower-resolution version of the console title, or a completely different game, IGN wanted to know. And we're sure you do, too. So go ahead. The answer, along with the rest of the interview and screenshots, await after the jump. ps3.qj.net/All-aced-up-Virtua-Tennis-3-new-details/pg/49/aid/82422

forzamotorsport.net/news/announcements/1upshow.htmthey've reviewed virtua tennis 3 on the one up show....u can download the show from the above link....from this review, there are more negatives than positives actually + looks great, nice looking characters + mini games are fun - no rumble on the 360 - in career mode u actually get to play roger federer when ur ranked 300, and its not that hard to beat him (of course as u move up so does he) - not much has changed since the last VT game, same game modes - theyve included diving a lot more, and more often than not, the shots are so weak, that ur oponent can easily smash a winner off them - now this is the part that scared the crap outta me....the reviewer actually said, "if u wanna play with ur buddies, its a great game, but if ur looking for something more meaty STICK WITH TOP SPIN 2" btw, the video also has a few more reviews and a nice forza 2 preview peace

IGNs preview of multiplayer on XBL...quite well written, very witty Last week I turned down a perfectly good opportunity to play Virtua Tennis 3 online because of the week-long event called Game Developers Conference 07. This week, SEGA re-scheduled the online outing to play a little singles and doubles games online. Since my team is on vacation and at jury duty (that's all two of them), I was going to refuse again. I was like, "Well, I can't really play, I don't have time, I gotta write this feature and it has all this code, blah, blah, blah…" and I felt embarrassed. But here at IGN it's work first, play later (or work on playing games first, write about them later). Whatever, I was busy.
So I hemmed and hawed and that's when SEGA started talking trash. It was good-natured, mind you, but it was still trash talking. I just couldn't refuse. The kid gloves were thrown from here to China.
SEGA's Virtua Tennis 3, which ships to PS3 and Xbox 360 next week, is one of those games that's hard to drastically improve because it's already so good. They really nailed the controls, the feel, and the animations in the first game back in the arcades and on Drreamcast. Still, SEGA's development team has pushed for more mini-games, a greater single-player campaign, and now, for the first time, online play. One of the big differences between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 versions is that the Xbox 360 version supports online. That is, it's fully Xbox Live compatible with various modes of play, leaderboards, Achievements and GamerScore points. The PS3 isn't online. Simple as that.
Having played a healthy amount of the game in the arcades, on the Dreamcast, and finally, with the PS2 version (Virtua Tennis 2) called SEGA Sports Tennis, I felt confident about my ability to knock back any long-haired Federer impersonator who came my way. Of all the licensed players, I purposely didn't pick Federer because right now in pro tennis he is nearly unbeatable. Just in case you were wondering, there are 20 pros in Virtua Tennis 3. There's Lleyton Hewitt (counter strokes, "tenacious, powerful forehand"), Andy Rodd*ck (big server, "fastest serve in the game"), Roger Federer (all rounder, "precise shots make him the best") and Maria Sharapova (hard hitter, "complete attacking game"). You'll also be able to choose Rafael Nadal, David Nalbandian, Sebastien Grosjean, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Tim Henman, James Blake, Mario Ancic, Taylor Dent, Gael Monfils, Tommy Haas, Lindsay Davenport, Daniela Hantuchova, Martina Hingis, Nicole Vaidisova, Amelie Mauresmo and Venus Williams (but not Serena Williams).
The online set-up is relatively easy. There's Ranked games, Player games (unranked), VT.TV (which is this neat new Spectator mode), and there are a handful of Leaderboards. For our simple set of games, I went basic. I accepted a friend invite, clicked on Xbox Live, picked unranked games and found the match. There were two of us at first and then we switched to doubles, which, it turned out, was way more fun than singles. The lobby system is also simple and clean. Not much to screw up there, actually. You pick a player (I picked Tommy Haas), you enter the lobby, which looks like a white outlined tennis court, and you pick sides. You press Start to indicate you're ready, and you're off.
We played two matches, the first being a complete smackdown. I told those fools not to mess with DCP. Nah, just kidding. I like to play the shark and surprise people. I never say I'm very good or bad because it's all relative to the people you're playing. In any case, my team -- IGN plus one of the SEGA PR people -- smoked the competition. It was like Mr. T smacking Rocky down in the first fight. The prediction was pain, and the prediction was right.
Virtua Tennis 3 played beautifully online for the first 45 minutes of our hour session. There was no lag, and the serves came through nicely, the players moved across the court with believable, life-like animations, and the ball was fast and un-interrupted by Internet-related business. While waiting for the server to deliver, we often ran around the court, dancing, jittering, and frolicking around. The cloth animations moved around separate from the bodies, so if you were Maria Sharapova and you did a little dance, your mini-skirt would swish back and forth. Something I always look for in a tennis game!
Using primary slices and power shots, I was also able to nail several slams down the throat of those no-good boasters of tennis loser-dom. And of course, somebody on their team actually picked Federer. What a loser! I'm actually in awe of the real-life player, having watching him several times just smoke the competition. But I didn't think it was fair to pick him while competing. It turns out that he's not all that much better in a multiplayer game. On the contrary, he's just a regular guy, so my assumption -- that SEGA boosted his stats to reflect his actual, real-life gameplay far above the rest -- was a little unfounded. In cases like this one, I'm happy to be wrong.
In the second match we switched teams. My new partner was a total all-around player, the kind of player that's great when playing single-player games, but not always that great to have as a partner. It's not a slight, but when coupled in teams, you have to let the other guy play. At first we ended up going for all the same balls, covering the court badly, and wondering what the hell was up with the other player. But as we progressed, we found a groove. He liked to play up close to the net, so I covered the backcourt. When he dove for a ball, I jogged to the other side of the court to cover the open space. We were up like 3-0 and it worked out for a good while, until I started laying it down thick. Honestly, if I hadn't talked all that trash, they never would have risen to the occasion. But I did, and they did too. The game went into a quadruple deuce. We finally lost in a valiant effort. The last 10 minutes or so of the game were affected by a little lag. The lag basically meant that I had to anticipate the ball's direction a little earlier than before, by a split second or so, and it occasionally made the game annoyingly harder.
Overall, Virtua Tennis 3's Xbox Live support is solid stuff. The game looks good online, it plays well, and the human-on-human competition is absolutely fantastic (when there is no lag), especially when you have smack-talking friends with whom to play.xbox360.ign.com/articles/772/772600p1.htmlpeace

impressions. vt3 lets you play a 2 point set match ,the players in the demo are ,roger federer, rafael nadal, maria (drool) sharapova and venus williams.the court is selected automatically as well as randomly. the game is pretty easy to pick up and play ,since you can hit only 3 shots ,normal, slice and lob you have to vary these shots in conjunction with the left analog stick to make maximum use. the game also is a bit arcadish. 2 things youll notice when u first play the game ,the players dive around a lot(tho' female players dont because landing on their breast can...... leave it),but once you play the game a little bit ,that problem will somewhat go away since u know when to hit the ball. some shots are pretty powerful,so you stand no chance esp smashes. the ai is fairly good (i think its on normal or easy) and tend to make the same mistakes as you which is pretty good to watch. also unlike topspin the gameplay isnt cheating with you whereas if you get your confidence high you can sleepwalk your way to a win,its possible to make epic comebacks in the game. \ graphically this game is looking pretty good, character models are very good and player likeness is absolutely topnotch(apart from sharapova).the crowds, the staff and the enviroments are also topnotch, tho' iam a bit dissapointed by the playing court, esp roland garros(clay court). all in all this looks like a good game, one which i may not buy ,but someone for me might surely.

played the demo.. must say its graphically one of the best games i have seen on the 360.. the player models are the best i have ever seen.. apart from that there is nothing much to it .. the triggers and the bumpers are not used at all in the game.. its only the 4 face buttons.. the gameplay is okay.. but as that guy said in to one up show the dive is use way too often the player dives like he is a superhero which looks totally fake.. there are no special shots like there are in TS2 so its all about placements .. i played nadal vs federer and won quite easily using Nadal.. the player physics are awesome.. the Nadal four hand looks jus as it does in real life.. even the after shot behaviour is detailed to the max

review out 8.0 Presentation Easy to access menus and a good, navigable Career mode. 7.5 Graphics Nice animations and good motion-capture work, but plain textures and simplistic visual design won't wow gamers. 7.0 Sound The attract mode music is par for the course, but the lack of musical variety is tiring. Pro players' yelps of missed shots are funnier than they are believeable. 8.0 Gameplay Good, solid controls and mechanics. A deep career mode provides depth and longevity and the Court Games add a lot of easy-to-access fun. 8.0 Lasting Appeal Xbox LIive support is solid here with four-player singles and doubles games and VT.TV for spectating. 8.0 Impressive OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average) xbox360.ign.com/articles/774/774076p3.html
