www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=156273Epic Games' freshly-renamed deathmatch shooter Unreal Tournament 3 is heading for Xbox 360 alongside the already-announced PS3 and PC versions, publisher Midway has confirmed. The news comes from the publisher's Gamers' Day event in Las Vegas, where CVG will be getting a hands on with the latest Unreal Engine 3-powered UT later today. Of course after the massive success of Epic's other 360 blaster Gears of War it was some what of a no-brainer that UT3 would make its way to Xbox 360 at some point, but owners of Microsoft's box can at least relax now that the release is set in stone. Look out for our full preview very soon.

yup....PS3 loses another exclusive
UT3: It's Real
Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007.
Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic's seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.
The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.
The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more.
We'll have more on Unreal Tournament 3 soon. In the meantime check the new screens and video.
peace

Hey, Mark Rein, you're so kind, you're so kind... okay, we're out of good rhymes. Hey Marky! Watch the VP of Epic Games talk to GameTrailers about Unreal Tournament III during Midway Games Day 2007, that kind soul, and hear him:
* Talk about Unreal Tournament III's graphics on comparative PC gaming rigs; * UTIII's role as Epic Games' showcase title for the PS3's tech (much as Gears of War was for the Xbox 360), and he did say "downloadable content" - maybe he was talking 'bout map mods?; * "Too early to tell" about a simultaneous release for the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 versions, and * Oh, no, not you too! When is the game gonna be ready? "When it's done." (He did point to a Fall release, though.) * And by the way, he IS kidding about 2009. Eases up the worries about "when it's done." Really hope it's Fall for all.www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2469

UT fans all around the world are clamoring: "When is it coming out?" It's probably gotten loud enough to get Epic tone-deaf. So now Jeff Morris, Epic Games' lead producer, bravely takes center-stage to answer a few questions from Billy Berghammer from Game Informer.
As said before in Midway's Gamer's Day in sin city Vegas, the name change of Unreal Tournament 3 was based solely because the game will represent the third generation technology of the Unreal 3 engine. Although some speculation revolved around the name-change were mainly focused on the release date, the game is still expected to come out by 2007, although that's just a hope.
The PC and Xbox 360 versions are probably first to ship, although the PS3 may also see a release date close enough to the first releases. UT3 may also sport Xbox 360, PS3 and PC interconnectivity for online play, but they will wait and see how other games doing this will turn out first.
The game, thankfully, will not be a Vista exclusive. Though Vista support will be included, the game will not leave XP users behind. There is no confirmation for open DX10 support, nor exclusive DX10 support. Like the first Unreal Tournament, the bot personalities will return (can you say Tamerlane?) although UT3 will integrate the personalities with a very emotion-driven, engaging story line of actual Unreal Tournament competition for the single player campaign.
Maps will also evolve over time in the campaign, once the Necris open their big box of surprises. New gameplay modes will also be featured, the biggest one being Warfare. This combination of Assault and Conquest modes will spell the rolling in of huge, epic maps and lots of new vehicles.
Speaking of new vehicles, there are not only different types of vehicles, but there are also two varieties of each type: one for each side. The Axons will have their own assortment of vehicles, while the Necris will have their own, too. Each one has their advantages and disadvantages, but mostly their based on providing variety in gameplay. The hoverboard is also a new addition to the game, allowing massive maps to be traversed from end to end in a jiffy. It also allows players to tag along vehicles that are being rushed to battle without tiring out from chasing them on foot.
Epic Games is just a couple of months away from releasing a final release version. They are at the stages of polishing everything out. They will release a demo for the PC just to get pre-release feedback. When everything is good to go, the release will just be around the corner. www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200702/N07.0201.1358.43054.htm?Page=1

Even though the game looks good, I'm a bit skeptical as to how such a fast paced shooter would work on consoles.

Next to Half-Life and Halo, it's probably the most recognizable name in FPS gaming: Unreal. As most every avid gamer knows, Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 is easily one of the most anticipated games of the new generation, and now, we learn the PS3 and PC versions will release ahead of the Xbox 360 version. Oooh, big news for PS3 owners; getting such a huge timed exclusive. The rumor began a few days ago, and initially met with much resistance. After all, Epic has produced Gears of War, a 360 exclusive and arguably the best game on the system. Furthermore, their past comments regarding Sony's next-gen system haven't been exactly glowing. But thanks to that recent Geoff Keighley interview on GameTrailers yesterday, this rumor was proven true; Unreal Tournament 3 will be a timed console exclusive. The reason? Well, Keighley said it's because Sony is allowing user-created mods for the game, and Microsoft thinks it could be used to "undermine" their Xbox Live service. The 360 version will come out at a later date after "they resolve some issues." That implies there's more than one issue, so we'll have to keep an eye on this...and also, how long is this "timed" exclusive? At last check, the game was scheduled for a January 2008 release (Q3 2007 in Europe), so do we have an update on this? Guess we'll have to wait on the details. But for now, this is pretty good news for PS3 owners. UT 3 will kick much ass, guaranteed. www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/1374.html
