BioShock (X360, PC)WANTED FOR: Underwater possession of illegal literature; possession of numerous bizarre firearms; intent to forcibly evolve. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Spiritual successor to the System Shock games; incredible setting; innovative changes to the shooter mechanic. KNOWN ACCOMPLICES: System Shock 2, Freedom Force Irrational games made System Shock 2, a shooter that wasn't. Yeah, there was definitely shooting, but choosing your upgrade path made play-throughs drastically different as you focused on guns, tech, or psychic powers, and any of those paths served as just one way to survive a true horror experience. This was before it had become really hip to mixing your genres any way you liked, but Irrational made a game that was really something special. Now, they don't have the System Shock rights, but with Bioshock it looks like they have a successor nonetheless: a shooter that offers so much more than just shooting, it's tough to call it "just" a shooter. It's a shooter that isn't. Not that the shooting looks anything but top-notch, because that Unreal Engine 3.0 driven action looks real good so far. The ever-present presence of water is played up, as the game takes place in the underwater commune-turned-nightmare of Rapture. A biosphere created in the forties as a Randian utopia, it's become an Orwellian fiction after conflict for control erupted and the weapon of choice became human DNA. "Adam," the substance that allows for personal evolution nearly instantly, is fought over and harvested from the corpses of the cities residents by giggling or fearful little girls, plunging their long syringe needles into the bodies to extract every drop. As a refugee, you can customize your firearms and your own abilities as you try to survive this Art Deco nightmare. Coming for PCs and for the Xbox 360, Bioshock -- if it delivers on its promises - will be as much RPG as shooter, as much adventure game as RPG, and as much shooter as adventure game. Unearthing the secrets of a society that has had decades of isolation to go quietly, powerfully mad, carefully weighing your ammo count to survive encounters, and spending your Adam carefully to evolve your potential will all matter as much as a quick trigger finger and smooth aim. And while Rapture founder Andrew Ryan seems to serve a purpose like System Shock 2's SHODAN - guiding, but also serving as an antagonist - we're still waiting to see what secrets are hiding within Bioshock's waters.

Mass Effect (X360)WANTED FOR: Multiple acts of galactic genocide; possession of weapons of mass destruction; intergalactic speeding. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Massive galaxy to explore; unique interactivity choices; beautiful engine. KNOWN ACCOMPLICES: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II This has been tantalizing us since we saw it at E3 - you remember, the big convention? Lots of people? - and has been looking better and better as Bioware slowly releases more information. The premise sets you in a futuristic galaxy where mankind has just stepped into the stage of worlds. You play Commander Shepard, mankind's representative in the galactic community. Humanity discovered ruins of incredible power in their home solar system, and within decades had established themselves as a power to be reckoned with. Placed in command of an incredibly advanced ship and with the powers of Dark Energy, high-tech weapons, and precise technical skills at your disposal, the whole thing sounds…well, sort of generic. But then we remember what we've seen so far, and that this is Bioware, and suddenly it's looking like anything but. Part of what makes Mass Effect so promising is the stunningly good looks it brings to the RPG genre. Bioware describes it as "photo-realistic" and it's not looking far from the truth, as far as clips of blue-skinned, tentacle-headed aliens chatting with a space marine can pass for realism. Rather than listening to characters talk at you as you read their text and pick one of a few canned responses, you'll watch delicate changes of expression on these characters' facial features for the same social clues that you would perceive in real life conversations. And to respond, you'll pick an emotional tenor or general sense of your reply, not a piece of canned dialogue. Previous Bioware games have defined and redefined how much of an impact player choice could have on a story (ask anyone who played through Knights of the Old Republic about the Wookiee's life debt), and this could redefine the level of interaction in interactive entertainment. Of course, RPGs aren't just about talking it out. They're also about combat. With a backdrop of a 50,000 year cycle of genocide about to restart, the murderous Geth AIs, and the honorable but militaristic Turians revealed so far, there'll be plenty of chances for fighting. Bioware is mixing up a new variety of real-time combat with a turn-based twist, this time in the form of squad command systems with real-time combat, more similar to Jade Empire than to Knights of the Old Republic. Travel in your spaceship, explore worlds in your customizable ground vehicle, evolve each character according to your own vision for them - we can't wait to save (or destroy) another Bioware-created world. p.s. i just reached my 500 posts mark. my new rank is GOD ;D woooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooo *receives award* the only people i would like to thank is the mods of 360i for not banning me after all my silly posts and threads..............................and conspiracies(although i got serious threats from a not-so-serious guy )

Halo 3 (X360)WANTED FOR: Murder of our free time in the first degree. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Mjolnir Mark VII battle armor; mysteriously faceless hero; swarms of alien creeps; bad-assed energy sword. KNOWN ACCOMPLICES: Halo Wars, Halo 2, Halo The word has come down from on high. Those that redefined a genre are making another one. Halo 3 is a reality and we can't wait to wrap our lives around it. For a series that essentially earned console first-person shooters a place in every gamer's living room, it should come as no surprise that Halo 3 is among the most anticipated games ever (and it probably would have made it in at number one if it weren't for those darned PC kids and their mangy Half-Life). But part of that anticipation comes from the fact that we were so rudely slighted by Halo 2. Yeah, we said it. Rudely slighted! If you've played all the way through the single-player campaign, then you know you've been ripped off… what the heck happened to the end of the game? Where are the rest of our levels? Is Bungie joking with this crap? After taking Master Chief and the Arbiter as far as they could go, we found a gaping chasm where closure wanted to be. Of course, an argument can be made for the merits of cliff-hanger endings, and the real draw of the last two Halo games has certainly been the multiplayer more than anything else, but at the same time there is this feeling that Bungie still owes us. They owe us the end of what could be an era-defining series in gaming history, but at least we know they're good for it. What really gets us is that Halo 3 multiplayer is already undergoing testing at Bungie headquarters. There are people playing Halo 3 at this very moment, and those people are not us! They are not you either! And yet, it is being played! If that doesn't get you boiling with desire for some Master Chief deathmatch action, you can grab yourself one of those cheesy "Hello, my name is…" stickers and scribble "a frikkin' loon" on it before pasting it to your chest. Okay everyone, just be calm. The next several months of waiting are going to be hard, but we'll get through them together. Halo 3 is coming, that much we know. All we need do now is bite our lips, practice our headshots and wait.
