if you like driving games, it's a must buy! not too sure about its current xbl community though -- it was thriving at one time, but most games have a certain 'flavour of the month' buzz around them.
i think the developers (eden/atari) have mapped about 1000-odd miles of an hawaiian island, giving it a MMO feel...

Atari has sent word that a new “Lexus Car Pack” is available for free download on Xbox Live Marketplace for Test Drive Unlimited. Atari has released the Lexus GS 450h hybrid-powered luxury sport sedan and Lexus LS 460 premium luxury sedan on Xbox Live Marketplace as a free download as a part of their new relationship with Lexus. Nique Fajors, VP, Sales & Marketing, Atari says, “Lexus automobiles are among the finest vehicles on the market today and a perfect fit for Test Drive Unlimited, one of the hottest racing games in recent times. The online community is a bit dead right now so I'd wait till this becomes a budget title.

I have the game and I think it's pretty good. It might not be one of the greatest but it's still a good racing title. It's not as realistic as say ToCA Race Driver but not as easy as the NFS series. The driving still requires some skill and each car handles differently. Besides that the graphics look pretty, there are tons of real world cars and bikes and it's open ended. Even without the online component, there's a good deal of offline play in TDU.
Worth it, I'd say...
