The plot thickens! Micromart Ltd, a UK based company which has apparently ‘been providing a comprehensive repair service to Games Consoles for over 10 years’ has decided to can the service.
Following on from our own recent concerns
regarding why Xbox 360s that have been sent in for repair are taking so damn long to be returned, Micromart - a third party repairer of the Microsoft console, has announced that they will no longer be repairing the Xbox 360 ‘ring of death’ problem because the volume they’ve been receiving has been too much for them to cope with.
This problem is endemic on the Xbox 360 console and the volume has made this repair non-viable, states the company’s website.
we play Xbox spoke to Micromart to ask them why they’ve decided to pull out of repairing the ring of death fault and they told us the problem is deep-seated and lies in the initial manufacturing of the console - they believe that every console manufactured prior to October last year will have the same problem with the lead free solder used with the GPU, which dries out in the heat and leads to overheating. This means thousands of consoles are out there with the same problem.
They’ve pulled out of repairing this specific problem because it’s so widespread and it’s a manufacturing fault that Microsoft need to deal with themselves.
The company also said that many Xbox 360’s sent to 3rd party repairers are being returned in working order only to die again within the space of a few weeks. This is because the problem needs to be looked at and fixed directly by Microsoft because it’s too much work and too expensive for third party repairers to fix them and still guarantee that they will run for any decent amount of time.
One of the staff members at Micromart is already on his 6th console himself.
Recent reports suggest that Microsoft are currently receiving over 2,500 broken Xbox 360s a day in UK. We’re currently awaiting word from Major Nelson who is looking into the problem we’ve had waiting for our Xbox 360 to be returned.
Thanks to 360 Rally for the tip-off
