Once again I'm doing a feature for our site on Achievements and I need some input from you guys in the form of an answer; the question here being, what makes a person an achievement whore even though there isn't any substantial reward for them?
Besides the answer if you have any other sort of input, go ahead and knock yourself out.

Earlier i thought that its the achievement points you can use to buy the stuff off the market place..but i kinda felt robbed after i relaised the truth ... anyways Personally for me achievement points carry no real significane apart from the general completion of the game. Apart from this most of us here have diff SP and MP GTs So Live GTs have lesser Gamerpoints and not exactly a picture of how much u have played.

achievement points are quiet good if implemented properly, they add value to certain games, they sometimes make you play the game again just for the points.although they def are a good addition but i dont miss them while playing on the ps3.
p.s i also think MS shd add a more value to the points like giving free themes or gamer pictures.

Invictus you're not alone. before I got onto Live I thought that unlocking achievement points would allow you to buy themes or even small arcade games... What a slap on my face that was.
And just like in the Racism article I'll be using your quotes along with your gamertags. Is that cool with everyone?

i think APs are designed to make you do two things: finish the game and keep playing after finishing the game.....i only do the former so i havent unlocked even half the points in most games
many people just use APs for bragging but many people also seem more consumed by unlocking the APs rather than enjoying the game....but that's the player's fault, not Microsoft's. I think its a great little gimmick by MS, even if a little flawed

Achievement points according to me is a great addon by microsoft to xbox live, not only do they make games challenging, they also make them fun.Certain games have some achievements which are very fun to unlock for eg - crackdown, i loved every bit of the game and many would agree to me that the achievements in the game made it more fun.Certain achievements in games also help in exploiting a game's graphics and environment for eg in games like condemned and gears there were certain achievements which could be unlocked only by collecting certain things. Achievements,in a way also help in judging a gamer's skills. If you play onlive regularly with people all over the world, i bet the first thing they do is check out ur gamer score...and of course all the achievements uve unlocked in a particular game. I personally have a SWEET feeling once i see the "achievement unlocked" pop-up. It is a great feeling when u unlock a very very difficult achievement for eg - it feels as if u have conquered the world when u beat general raam on insane difficultly in gears of war...that according to me makes the achievement system an "achievement" for microsoft PS - Nash, I hope i havent written an article itself and u can use my gt in ur article

APs are not an indication of a player's skill...it has more to do with how much u play the game.....if u play most games long enough u'll get the APs

^^yes but most of the players ive played online like in gears of war and crap judge u by the number of achievements u have unlocked in the game.

Achievements are one of the coolest features of the Live service and cater to a certain "need" that alot of gamers feel. Since the birth of consoles, us gamers have invested so much time into our games, often finding the small bonus features of our favorite games and spending hours upon hours finding that last package/orb/hidden item, but at the end of the day what did we have to show for it? While some games added unlockable features for accomplishing certain goals, to some respect it was limited within the confines of the game. But with Microsoft's achievement points it gave some form of recognition for those of us who spend 40+ hours hunting all those hidden items. However trivial the reward may have been, browsing back and looking at your achievements was reminiscant of looking around your trophy room. It became a way to recognize the hours you invested within a game and added a whole new level of replayability.
Whether a trivial gimick added on at the last minute, or a defining feature. Achievements are still pretty kick-ass
