Having a big drumset doesn't really make a great drummer, but yeah Mike Portnoy is a frickin legend. He'll be in my top 5 rock drummers of all time with Neil Peart, Keith Moon, John Bonham and Dave Grohl.

You mean Sivamani? He performed at AR Rahman's concert. Well, he's a great percussionist IMO. I don't really like the style with which he plays, but nonetheless, he certainly does do some crazy thing, with all different kinds of percussions. But simply on a drumset, not really. Watch some Buddy Rich solos, then you'll know what drumming art means

Hahaman, nope I haven't] @barnaclebrain, your choices really surprise me. Sure, it's just your opinion, but I think you are overrating both of them! Lars Ulrich is really overrated, mainly because he plays for Metallica. Sure, people might be impressed by his double bass speed, but he isn't anything special. Now, Im not saying he's not good. He is good, and fits perfectly with Metallica, but outside the studio, he doesn't have much. Regarding Joey Jordison, I think he is really good. His solos are some of the best Ive seen, and he certainljavascript:add("%20;D") Griny has added a lot to the metal scene. He certainly isn't very technical, but I love his fills. But to say that these 2 are the BEST seems like an insult to people like Neil Peart, Keith Moon, Dave Grohl, John Bonham, Mike Portnoy, Stewart Copeland, Ian Paice etc. But anyways, just to put this debate to and end, the best drummer ever is Buddy Rich ;D Except Neil Peart and Stewart Copeland, no rock drummer can even come close to his technique.
