The Da vinci code was good, but Dan Brown's other books: Digital Fortress, Deception Point and Angel and Demons were fantastic! Also Try: 1. The Camel Club by David Baldacci 2. The Afghan by Fredrick Forsyth 3. The Last Templar 4. The Halo Books 5. The Inheritance trilogy (Sort of a kids book, but an interesting read nonetheless)

and gta my friend yet again i feel bad but i must say this... alchemist and da vinci code are one of those books which were just a rage but had very very average story... Alchemist was not supposed to be a story-oriented book, it was worth reading for the underlying message ! If you have read - Fountainhead, you will see, the story was just ok, but the theme of the novel - Objectivism, was what made the book popular ! Da Vinci code sold more than 25 million copies invictus, either 25 million ppl around the world are reading a bad story book or 1 person did not quite enjoy that book....you do the math ! yup tru, i dont see a point as to why 25 million people were intrigued by a story, the climax of which i could guess half way thru(with the average intelligence that i have). i never said it was bad, it was just average... same about alchemist i agree that there was an underlying message but somehow most of the people who 'think' that they are readin the book for underlying message, are actually reading cos its just popular or their next door neighbour has read it. if underlying message would have been the criteria then (as u have mentioned) fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged(would rate this better than fountainhead) are Faaaaaar better than Alchemist... Moral of the story is- not everything that is popular is good. remember HALO

Da vinci is a very average story.. only the controversial theme made it a best seller and that the theme was borrowed from search for the Holy Grail.. Dan Browns other books like decpetion point are pathetic.. My all time fav is Fountainhead

I'm not much of a reader but I've read most of the "must read" titles which everyone likes. However, I love the Harry Potter books especially the 5th and the 6th... Could never finish LOTR no matter how many times I tried it. I keep going back to the movies Also, I like to collect graphic novels and comic books, some of my highly recommended graphic novels are... Alan Moore's The Watchmen (it's the holy grail of graphic novels soon to be made into a movie by 300's Zack Snyder) Alan Moore's V For Vendetta Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Batman: The Long Halloween DC's Kingdom Come DC's Crisis On Infinite Earths Marvel Secret Wars X-Men: The Phoenix Saga Neil Gaiman's Sandman Collection Garth Ennis' Preacher series John Constantine: Hellblazer series

I totally forgot mentioning Chuck Palanhuik's books.
Fight Club Survivor Choke Invisible Monsters Diary
Very different stuff. Funny, offensive, smart... but definitely not something everyone will enjoy... especially Choke.
