Haze will call you a "pussy"Future-war shooter Haze will team you up with some alarmingly outspoken AI comrades, promises David Doak, co-founder of developer Free Radical. Haze's mercenary-military action will put you in some very uncomfortable situations, but if you hesitate for a second your tooled-up soldier 'buddies' are going to be hassling you mercilessly. "I don't think you will see in any other game points in the narrative, in cut-scenes or cinematic gameplay moments, where people are calling you a pussy - telling you that you're not with the program, that you're a liability to the team," Doak informed us during a refreshingly open discussion at a recent Ubisoft event. "Haze puts in this warzone, where other people are perhaps doing things where a line has been crossed. You're going to think, 'These guys have gone too far'. And you'll have to ask yourself, 'Are you part of this now?'" But how far is Free Radical willing to go to make Haze the challenging, mature videogame it is aiming for? "The thing is," Doak pointed out, "you come up against the law of censorship, which is incredibly hypocritical when it comes to games. Because the act of putting these uncomfortable, challenging experiences into a game is somehow glorifying it. Except that other media can do such things, and still be having some sensible discourse about it". Free Radical isn't about to hold back, though. "In Haze there's a lot of NPC reaction speech, a hell of a lot of it, written to a higher quality than Free Radical has ever done before. And also [with Haze] we're less fettered by people telling us 'Oh, no, you can't say f**k' - because at the level we're pitching it we can say f**k. And that means that what's happening is believable." "There's all these soldiers running around with you, shooting, taking Nectar". Nectar, remember, is the super-enhancing drug given to Haze's soldiers (and you) by sinister military corporation Mantel. "The soldiers are fighting with you, using Nectar and talking about it all. And they talk about it in a locker room style. But, sometimes, it gets a bit too far. It makes you uncomfortable. And we can achieve that discomfort because of the language we're able to use." So, we wondered, is Doak happy with the level of censorship in the UK? "I think, in the past, with PEGI and so on it was a case of people playing safe," he answered. "No one wanted to get into trouble by saying something was ok for public consumption, so they just said 'No'." And now? "I think the BBFC are doing a really good job. If someone's going to be a censor and a guardian of what people see, then that person needs to be wise and responsible." www.gamesradar.com/gb/ps3/game/news/article.jsp?releaseId=20070601111949703050&articleId=20070601111949703050§ionId=1006

Friday 1 June 2007 Is Haze a PlayStation 3 exclusive, or not? That's the question that has puzzled the internet over the last week, with confusion obvious over whether Free Radical's challenging blastathon will make it to Xbox 360 or PC. For the definitive answer, GamesRadar tracked down publisher Ubisoft for an official response. Here's what it told us: "[Haze on]PS3 is confirmed for release this year. 360 and PC versions are not confirmed for release this year." We've also spoken to dev legend David Doak, co-founder of Free Radical, who told us that Haze has been built using the Linux coding language - a language that is best suited to PlayStation 3. Haze is being lead developed for PlayStation 3 and will be released for Sony's hardware this year. Xbox 360 and PC versions are also in the works, but will not appear until 2008. www.gamesradar.com/gb/ps3/game/news/article.jsp?releaseId=20070601114059609014&articleId=20070601114059609014§ionId=1006

Some new Haze info from the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine.
- At the same time flames engulf the grass and burned-out buildings.
- A cool remote-controlled grenade - simply lob it at a position then use the trigger to blow it up.
- On the ground, you'll be able to get behind the wheel of chunky APC's as well as speedy buggies.
- There's also a whole range of Promise Hand vehicles that Free Radical Design is yet to reveal. This is an improvisational guerilla force though, so we're fully expecting them to come at you in rusty, armour-plated Datsun Cherry's.
- Overdosing teammates may end up pointing rockets at their own bases, or pulling the pins from hand grenades and just standing there laughing.
- There are about 12 different environments ranging from some quite claustrophobic interiors to epic vistas. The level I was playing the other day, to walk across it - without enemies in it - took me over an hour.
- We didn't want to do the kind of enforced emotion through game design: protect the civilian, if they die it's game over, therefore you care about them. Well, that doesn't enforce emotion... the only emotion you tend to get from that is frustration. It does that bizarre reverse thing where you actually end up getting p****ed off at them because they keep getting killed.
- Haze is definetly quicker-paced than it was when we showed it at E3, although it's still a little slower, more tactical experience than Timesplitters.
- Metal Gear Solid: "It has a similar message to Haze, although I've handled it in a different way. I've always admired Kojima for being overtly political. Politics should never interfere with gameplay, but having a theme worth thinking about gives the experience real substance," says Rob.

t looks like that release list of upcoming titles from Ubisoft is legit. Yes, even the one that says Haze is coming to the PC and Xbox 360.
That's the thing about the word exclusive, it's all relative. Sure Haze is a PS3 exclusive when it hits on November 23, but come November 30 it's a mutliplatform title available for purchase on the PC and Xbox 360 as well.
The list also includes the 360 Dark Messiah offering, Elements, as well as Assassin's Creed and Clancy's latest: Splinter Cell Conviction. I was disheartened to see nary a word on End War. Hopefully, they'll be showing it off in a playable form at E3.
LMAO its an PS3 exclusive for a week
