I know, the c0ckpit view is just to die for.. A French interview also confirmed this few days back : www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsvUC7dW8EQMy girlfriend knows french, so she kinda translated this for me, well it was hard and quick but she tried.. Apart from the usual mumbo-jumbo of KazSan's cars and ooh how realistically they've made all the car models and tracks and stuff the most interesting thing was to know that they've been working on the models of cars and stuff for GT5 since B4 GT4 even.. Actually since GT4, coz when they were gathering data for GT4 they were taking and then Making all HIGH REZ car models with GT5 in mind in 2004, for GT4 they removed all the unwanted bits or rather bits that they couldnt put due to the PS2 hardware limitations, so they have many car models already ready for GT5. This explains how after saying that it takes 1 engineer about 6 months to model the car accurately, and they have around 6 of em working on 1 car to speed up the process, still it would be logically impossible to get this game out in 08, now this explains how they can manage to do that.. Anyway, I hope they give us some more info on GT5 in June (when they'll eventually even declare what game will come out btween gt-hd and gt5 .. and then some more info in E3 in july...

gamers-creed.com/?p=199Here are some Excerpts from the latest edition of Car and Drive issue magazine in which they give more details about the next GT5 game. Excerpts : - They talk about the whole GT series and the some technical differences between them and the latest iteration - GT5. - They talk about the Polyphony’s studio and how the developers spend their time there. Some have cots with sleeping bags under their desk to take power naps.
- They mentioned that the soonest GT5 would be released would be Spring 2008 but that it could be pushed back because Sony is giving them as much time as they need - Kaunori Yamauchi wants it done right.- Yamauchi said for GT1, one car was one day’s work for one man, GT3 was one man’s work for 30 days, and GT5 one car is one man’s work for 180 days! - Yamauchi mentioned to program 700 cars would take at least 5 years so GT5 will obviously have less. Players will be able to download more cars in the future. Mentioned some game upgrades will be supplied and sold online in the future. - One of the future upgrades may be crash damage. Some reasons given as to why it doesn’t have it yet are that it needs to be done realistically, the physics engine would need to be updated and that some car companies don’t want their cars portrayed with crash damage - even if it’s just virtual.- Realistic crash damage alone is basically double the work. The way Yamauchi wants it done would mean each body panel of each car would have to be modeled separately - intact and crumpled - with the resulting changes in light and shadow.
- “Yamauchi never intended GT to appeal to a mass audience. He believed only a real otaku, or hobby fanatic, would take the time to explore it’s many nooks and crannies. Indeed, the first version was altered for the US market to make it more accessible.” The game was tweaked by Taku Imasaki for American buyers by speeding up the game by 25%, changed the gravity so cars flew longer, and added the instant-play option. Imasaki’s changes didn’t win him many friends at Polyphony.

forget killzone ,this might turn out to be sony's most expensive project till date, but it will be worth it,the game sells around 8-10mill copies each version, which for a car sim(or any racing game) is nothing short of a miracle.

" Gran Turismo 5 HD Concept
While it won't make it out this year, that doesn't stop us from gathering plenty of information and details on Gran Turismo 5. The latest batch doesn't come from a videogame magazine, believe it or not, but from a Car and Driver issue. They go into some depth concerning Polyphony's simulator, and we've got a nice little summary for you, here:
They start off by comparing previous installments in the GT series to GT 5, and how there is a definite technical difference. This is exactly what driving simulator fans are looking for, as always (an upgrade in racing physics is certainly appreciated, even though GT 4 was pretty damn good). Kazunori Yamauchi leads the group, and he talked at length about the amount of time they spend on GT 5, and why it won't be seen until 2008 (Spring 2008, at the earliest).
In the process of creating this title, the article gives us a look at the daily life of a Polyphony team member, which includes sleeping bags, cots, and power naps. Yamauchi said that, for the original Gran Turismo, one car was one day’s work for one man. For GT 3, it was one man’s work for 30 days, and for GT 5, it's one man’s work for 180 days! Um, that's a long time to program one car. And this is why we'll probably be seeing less cars this time around, as it would take about 5 years to produce 700 cars. Still, even though GT 5 will have less cars than GT 4, you will soon be able to download more in the future.
In the end, they're taking their time because...well, because it takes plenty of time, and Sony is letting them take as much time as they need. Everybody, including Yamauchi, simply "wants it done right." And we couldn't agree more with that sentiment."

"Gran Turismo 5 won't feature car damage Could slip to late 2008 as well. If you're a Gran Turismo fan then it's been a disappointing few years. First details on Gran Turismo 5 were released back in 2005. Late last year Gran Turismo HD was released on the PlayStation Store, with a few minimalist options. Now, Gran Turismo director Kaunori Yamauchi has revealed whilst speaking to US based magazine 'Car and Drive' that the earliest that Gran Turismo 5 would be released would be Spring 2008. Yamauchi has also revealed that the date could be pushed back to the end of the year if the team needs more time. What takes so long when it comes to Gran Turismo? Well according to Yamauchi it's taking 180 days for someone to build a car in the levels of detail required for Gran Turismo 5 in comparison to 30 days for Gran Turismo 3 and one day for the original title. Disappointingly it's also been revealed that crash damage for the game will not be in the title because some companies don't want to see their beloved vehicles smashed up. Yamauchi hasn't ruled out adding crash damage as downloadable content, and we'd predict if this happens it will probably be in late 2059 / early 2060." palgn.com.au/article.php?id=8062&sid=2f20c775f39f757770bb3c9ff07cd46d&title=Gran+Turismo+5+won't+feature+car+damage

The demo trailer started with a pit crew poring over a Ferrari before it tore down a race track. The camera flies into the car as the driver squeals away. The camera swings behind the driver before swooping out to follow the car as it roars down the asphalt. Even from outside the car, you can see an incredible amount of detail within the racing machine, from the contours of the driver's helmet to instruments on the dash.

lol@ Ferrari
surely the bright minds at IGN can tell the difference between a ferrari and a nissan
