www.gamesradar.com/gb/ps3/game/news/article.jsp?releaseId=20070214123028109066&articleId=20070214123028109066§ionId=1006GamesRadar reports that in a recent GameTrailers interview, when Sony exec and overseer/overlord Phil Harrison was asked about the how MotorStorm looks now compared to the now legendary E3 2005 demo footage, Harrison had this to exclaim: "You actually get a better experience in the game - more cars on screen, more physics, more dynamics than we ever did in the visualisation..." In other words, Harrison is implying that compared to the original demo movie, Sony "over delivered" when it comes to the game's graphics. When the interviewer pointed out that there's a lot less mud in the actual game compared to the demo, Harrison responded with this: "You know what? We actually turned down the mud because it made the game impossible to play." Harrison is so proud of Sony's baby that he goes as far as to say that MotorStorm will be the "killer app" that the PS3 needs. He believes that "it's the title which a lot of people are going to go 'Wow - that's actually what I was expecting PlayStation 3 to represent!'" We of course would like to flat-out agree with Harrison, but some of us here at QJ are still hoping that the game offered more than 8 tracks (that's what some of the reports/reviews say: just 8 tracks). Perhaps downloadable extra content is in the making? What about you folks? Do you agree with Mr. Harrison that MotorStorm is the needed killer app?

review out.. got an 8.9 in ign.com
6.5 Presentation The small number of tracks and lack of gameplay options hurts this category quite a bit.
9.0 Graphics Largely fantastic, the cars are excellently detailed, lightning is silky-smooth and the crash are simply "wow". Some shadows have low-res samples, however.
9.0 Sound Great engine sounds, explosive crash effects and a rocking soundtrack fill out the audio portion.
9.0 Gameplay Intense. Furious. Exhilarating. If only there were more options...
7.5 Lasting Appeal The online play is fantastic fun, but lack of different race types can make it a bit repetitive after a while. Also, no split-screen will disappoint some folks.
8.9 Great OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average)

MotorStorm Review www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=7936410&publicUserId=5803925This is a game that I have been waiting on since I played the Demo at a EB Games store shortly before the system came out. It looked great, it was fun to play, and it looked like it had a lot of promise. Well lets see how it turned out. Ok on to the good (and bad) Stuff. Graphics / Details Ok lets start with the one thing that everyone has been complaining about, It only runs at 720p Resolution and 30fps (Frames Per Second). Well the game is gorgeous as it is, could it look better? Yes... probably but it is still a first gen game and for that I say it looks incredible. Secondly does it need to run at more than 30fps? No! Why you may ask, because it is not a super fast paced racing game like Ridge Racer. I can't even imagine trying to play this game at 60fps with all the stuff you have to pay attention to, like landing a jump on a very narrow mesa where even the slightest mistake would cost you the win. Now on to the actual Graphics information. This game is dirty and muddy and at the same time pristine and awe inspiring, and it isn't often that I can say that. The mud just looks and actually feels like mud and it clumps up on the cars and the tires, if you are taking a turn in a motorcycle and you hit a patch of it you'll slide right across and be filthy once you emerge. I have honestly never seen anything like it. As the guys at Evolution Studios said, "With the Last Gen consoles it was how shiny and clean can we make everything look and now it is how dirty and gritty can we make it look" (Paraphrased). Well they certainly set the bar in that respect, several times while playing I actually felt the urge to take a shower because my racer was covered in dirt and grime. Audio Well on every level this game sounds great it is crisp and clear on everything from stereo sound to Dolby Digital the Audio is perfect. However the soundtrack itself is horrid and though it pains me to say it EA might get dethroned on the Worst Game Soundtrack of the Year Award this year. I actually shut it off and listened to music via my iPod shuffle after only playing for about an hour. But aside from that the vehicles and explosions sound great. Gameplay The game reminds me in a lot of ways of R.C. Pro-Am and Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road where the control was unrealistic but it didn't diminish the fun factor of the game. Which is really the reason we play games, isn't it? Because they are Fun... Right... Well at any rate the game seems easy on the surface but there is a fairly steep learning curve due to the fact that you have to race these tracks with 7 different vehicle classes meaning that you can't race the track the same way each time, and there are many different routes to take on each course depending on the vehicle you have. I personally have found it easiest to stay back the first lap and try and follow the class I am in to see where they go so I know the easiest path but keep in mind that the AI is aware of you and will try and do whatever it takes to slow you down so that isn't always possible on a short course (you may just have to race it over). However with the learning curve I didn't find the races to hard though I did have to race a couple of them two or three times to finally get 1st place. Game Mechanics In the single player mode you race to earn points, each time to complete an event and earn said points you unlock more events or vehicles and you pretty much unlock something after each event giving you a sense of accomplishment as you go However this game is light on options. -First off you have only 8 track with multiple paths. -7 vehicle classes (ATV, Bike, Buggy, Racing Truck, Rally Car, Mud Plugger & Big Rig) All with a varied feel and learning curve. -Online support for up to 12 players (which is customizable), but no Split-Screen Multiplayer. -Long load times. These things limit this game from being truly great but this is still a solid effort and with patches and add-ons some of these issues could go away, and I have high hopes for a sequel if they make one. Lasting Value This game is light in the single player mode you could probably finish it in a week, or less, if you put yourself to it. Heck I beat Gran Turismo 3 in three days and it was huge, but I had a three day weekend and nothing else to do. Anyway back to the point it is fairly short and limited however the Online Multiplayer should keep you going for quite a while. Not to mention that they can always add more tracks and modes further on down the road so it could keep you and your PS3 going for quite a while. Graphics 9.0/10 Audio 8.5/10 Gameplay 9.0/10 Mechanics 8.5/10 Lasting Value 8.0 Overall 8.5
