God of War II
The story picks up where players last left off with Kratos. Sitting atop his throne on Olympus, Kratos, the once mortal warrior has become a threat far worse than his predecessor Ares, had ever been. Kratos is a ruthless God, whose wrath strikes down anyone who crosses his path or the path of his beloved Sparta. The "Ghost of Sparta" sets out to alter that which no mortal, or god has ever changed, his fate. Kratos' journey brings him to the very edge of the Earth, facing countless beasts, monsters, and horrors from his previous life, all bent on preventing him from reaching his goal. But this is Kratos, and his defiance is filled with such arrogance and contempt that all of the Ancient World still trembles at his name: Kratos, the God of War.

maybe there were multiple covers...because i had that one peace yeah, maybe. but it's written god of war 2 on that box art dude. anyways, about the story. looks like athena won't be on kratos' side this time around as she is the one who strips kratos of his godly powers and makes him a mortal again.

here's why god of war 2 is one of the most wanted games of 2007 God of War II (PS2)
WANTED FOR: Feeding a Greek deity a sword; the widespread and wholesale slaughter of a variety of mythological creatures; increasing the stock in Ancient Greece's Pottery Barn.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Do-it-yourself surgical amputations; sacrificing poor bastards to solve puzzles; impalements; fly-by killings on a Pegasus.
KNOWN ACCOMPLICES: God of War
Kratos is back. In case you didn't notice, he's still pretty angry about something. After brutally slaying Ares, the Greek god of war, for sparking the events that led to his family's murder, our pal K was last seen sitting, Conan the Barbarian-style, on a comfy seat among the other gods on Mount Olympus.
At some point, it seems, Kratos has had his thunder stolen, and it's up to him to figure out the hows and whys to get his godhood back. We assume it will involve copious amounts of gut-wrenching violence.
From what we've seen of God of War II, it's not just more of the same; it's just plain more. That means more weapons, more magic, and more abilities. Kratos will be able to move and shoot with his wind bow. He'll have even more brutal combos to pull off with some of the usual suspects amidst his arsenal. He'll be able to perform even more magical moves this time around as well. Also, like other great action/adventure heroes, he'll have a grapple that enables him to swing from point to point.
Also, as with the last God of War, the sequel effectively pushes the PlayStation 2 to its limits. The stages that we've seen are rich and vivid. The bestiary looks to be filled with some new and some updated monsters, and the kill animations look to be just as mutually cringe-worthy and jaw-dropping as what we've seen in the original game. As the PS2 begins its fade into that grey area between obsolescence and retro renaissance this year, we expect God of War II to be something of an exclamation point.
