Hi guys,

Was searching through internet about modded 360s and Wiis and came across this forum. Its a great forum where indian gamers can meet up

. Well, I live in Mumbai and know quite a few places where I can get consoles and games like Ninja Traders and Sony TV Games shops in Musafir Khanna and a few shops in nearby Manish Market and also Alpha in Vile Parle (although I prefer to stay away from it

). Now, I do have to call these guys up and ask whether they have a modded Wii but before I do that, I had a few questions.

1. How much does a modded Wii cost here in India ?? How much did yours cost ??

2. Which is the best Wii modchip out there ?? I have searched quite a lot on the internet and other forums and came to know there is Wiikey, Cycloviz, Wiinja, and something called a "Drive Doctor" which actually modifies your DVD Drive firmware just like 360. So, which one would you recommend ?? and which one is actually available over here in India ?? (Thats another question I'll be asking those guys here in Mumbai :))

3. Did you face any problems with your modded Wii

4. Also, when I read up on modchips, it said "Partial support for NTSC games on Pal consoles" and vice versa, so in that case which region console would you actually recommend

A very VERY good friend of mine mods PS2 consoles, even installs HDDs to slim PS2s (which I think is quite impressive). You think I can buy a modchip and a Wii and tell him to mod it for me ? He says he can do any modchips as long as he has diagrams

Also, getting Wii games won't be a problem, coz I know ways to get them and I do infact have a DVD burner

What would you guys suggest me

i have a ntsc-u/c wii modded with the wiikey modchip.... (recommended)
no issues with games jus download,burn and play....
got mine for 12k(at launch)+3k modding(in bbay)
a new wii in bbay is 17k with modchip installed but mainly all jap wii consoles are available....

didn't you say you got for 16k a while back?

Hi Arjun,

Thanx for replying. So, is there a way I can acquire a US Nintendo Wii here in India

I have a friend who mods PS2s (as mentioned in my earlier post) and I think I can get my Wii modded without any problems, so will also require a modchip (may be a wiikey as recommended by you :))

Or may be get a modded US Wii

Can you help me out with this

PS: Nevertheless, even if I go ahead and buy a Jap Wii, will there be any problems ?? I guess there would be limited compatibility with games that are available on the internet.

I do intend to download Wii and Gamecube games off of torrent sites and of course through rapidshare links and burn em and play, so I think I might run into trouble getting Jap games or getting NTSC games to play on that Jap wii. What say ?

ravihpa, you'll not get US Wii here below 20k. And Wiikey is not compatible with newer motherboards (D2B/D2C) in US Wii, so its hard to find them here. Most consoles in grey market are Jap Wii. You can play all ntsc games, US or Jap, on modded Jap Wii. But you can only access Japanese Nintendo Store, so all VC games you buy online will be in Japanese. That is, if Nintendo doesn't start banning modded Wii consoles.

Am particularly interested in playing US Wii and US Gamecube games, so the modded Jap Wii won't have any problems playing them right ? even the US gamecube games will work fine right ?

Also, are the VC games really good ? I mean even I play all those retro games on my PC, and it would be just amazing to play them on your TV, but all the old games that am interested in playing on my TV are the SNES games Super Mario World, Donkey Kong games, etc, and I am sure there must already be an emulator to play those games on the Gamecube and would work just fine on the Wii.

Nevertheless, I'll look around the gray markets here and I'll see what I can get my hands on. Any other recommendations are always welcome

Wow, thats great news. I'll try to get as much info over here as I can and get the actual prices. Am just waiting for my weekly off so I can actually go over there and check out which consoles am getting and at what price and of course which modchip.

Well, I got the R4 with 1 GB Kingston SD Micro card (original jap) for just Rs. 2000, which is great

I bought my DS along with the R4 and its been working JUST AMAZING

I have around 150+ DS roms sitting right here

and I can put somewhere around 30 to 35 DS roms at any point in time in that 1 GB SD Micro card

PS: Oh and by the way, if you already didn't notice, I live in Mumbai, and I got the R4 at Ninja Traders (shop no. 786) at Musafir Khanna (nearby CST station)

If you want, I can post their phone numbers and you can call them up if you want, just in case
