January 23, 2007 – The first time I picked up a Wii controller and battled my friends at a furious tennis match I noticed I was sweating. Not from the normal gamer sweat spots either (sweating hands, foreheads from concentrating) but from everywhere else on my body. I remember thinking of how cool it was that I was getting a workout by playing video games and actually having fun. I barely noticed that I was doing my body such a service by relaxing and playing video games.
There is a blogger in Philadelphia who has caught onto this idea and lost nine pounds just from playing Wii Sports. Mickey DeLorenzo dropped from 181 pounds to 172 by playing Wii Sports for 30 minutes daily over a 6 week period. There was no change in his eating or exercise habits—this documented weight loss has been the result of playing Wii Sports only.
After the first Wii Sports boxing match with his wife, Mickey decided to conduct this experiment using himself as the guinea pig. A successful experiment indeed, Reuters has enlisted Mickey’s help in creating Wii workouts.
Surely another reason to go out and buy a Wii, Those of you wishing to shed a few pounds to get beach-ready this summer—GO OUT AND BUY A WII ALREADY! It won’t be long until developers release workout or exercise tracking games—who knows, maybe Nintendo will release an Exercise Channel.
The possibilities are endless. In the meantime, be sure to check out WiiNintendo.net to view Mickey Delorenzo’s progress and take a glance at the before and after photos.
hehehe maybe ill buy the wii after all.
