techdigest.tv/2006/12/consumers_favou.htmlthe findings of a US-based survey which suggests that a major factor in consumer negativity about the Blu-ray high definition optical disc format is a distrust of Sony, and annoyance from some gamers that they're forced to adopt Blu-ray if they get a PS3.
"Sony, on the other hand, has a track record of starting format wars, and losing them too. Beta, mini-disc, umd, and atrac have all been huge flops, but they just don't seem to learn their lesson because they're too greedy."
"While the media and manufacturers duke it out over their format choice, our research shows that consumers are turning away from Blu-ray because of Sony's reputation and heavy-handed launch strategy"V

Dunno about this but in Asia Blu Ray is KING. I tested Swordfish on my PS3 and then the HD version on my 360.
The Blu Ray version is clearly much superior in picture quality.

a lot of AV enthusiast sites are divided between which is the superior format based on picture quality alone -- you must have some incredibly sharp eyes BP!

Yes i do actually. Hawkeye was my callsign in the army until Desert Shield/Storm. I have seen loads of reviews but my tests on my systems clearly show that swordfish in Blu Ray was the winner. I plan to wait a few months before I pick up a proper Blu Ray or HD player. A friend is bringing over a bunch of films tonight so I might compare some more.

sony lost because they tried to prevent the format from piracy, umd is a major example cds and dvds became mainstream only after piracy was rampant, because it then not only is popular in the major nations but only in developing and third world countries
