ps3.ign.com/articles/747/747413p1.htmlThe Bottom Line System launches don't always tell the future. There were mixed reactions to the Xbox 360 last year and now it's thriving. The GameCube and Dreamcast had successful debuts, yet they didn't end up with a market share as big as originally predicted. What does history like this say for the PlayStation 3? The honest answer is that nobody really knows -- they can only speculate. Personally, I think that Sony's brand name and developer support will keep it in a close race for the top, but that's not based on my view of its launch performance... it's just a hunch. I'll close with this: given the momentum of the Xbox 360 right now and the strong reactions to the Wii's launch last weekend, the PS3 didn't come out swinging hard enough to cement its heralded position as king of the next generation this year. It's a long battle, of course, and Sony is well equipped to deal with it for the long run (as its PS One and PS2 victories have proven). But as the old saying goes, you only get one chance at a first impression -- and for this chance, the PlayStation 3 didn't dominate, it just showed up. The Bottom Line: 6 out of 10peace

Yeah I was very dissapointed at the PS3's launch line-up. Let's hope 2007 brings better stuff.

ditto. resistance is the only saving grace, but apparently its MP mode isnt good. also with the list of complaints regarding the PS3 ---- cant download in background, cant choose custom music in games, psx emulator only released for psp, no hdmi cables/hd cable out of the box, wireless controller needs to be setup using wires, no IPOD support, etc ---- advisable to wait, let sony iron out the bugs (software), move into 2nd wave of hardware production, and wait for AAA games (MGS4, FF, VF, GT, SOCOM, GTA4, Assassin's Creed, etc)

I just got my PS3 today and its I am very impressed with it.
The setup took a while as there's loads of different options. I set up several GT's with no problem and it did not cost me a dime. There are no regional issues with GT's either. You are given the option of putting your CC on file for store purchases.
I played Fall of man for a while and this totally bowled me over. Amazing gameplay and graphics. Pretty good MP mode but not many people online today. I plan on trying RR7 later once the controllers have fully charged.
The store is up and running with demos and games you can buy.
Vin The HK version has the latest firmware and supposedly supports the Ipod. Wireless controllers are a breeze to charge with the standard USB cable. No setup was needed for mine. I did have to keep them plugged in to set up the PS3 as they were not charged.
My only complaint is the lack of HDMI or Component cables in the package but here in HK almost no one uses the supplied cables. The sony Network is not fully functional and lacks many of the features we are used to on XBL. However XBL was pretty buggy when it first launched and it took MS several months to get it running smoothly.

I have been playing around some more with my PS3 and figured out a few things - Plugged in several keyboards including a Saitek Eclipse and they all work fine. Zboards do not work. - Sucessfully used Plantronics bluetooth Discovery 655 headset with the PS3 while playing Fall Of Man. It seems like any BT headset can be detected by the PS3 - Replaced the HDD in a few minutes and so far it works fine. - Plugged in an external 400 gig HDD and could transfer and save items on it. - Problems using my IPod but this will be fixed in the next update. - Bought a Blue Ray version of "Sahara" and will test it tonight. Blue Ray discs are totally sold out in HK while HD Discs are not selling well at all.

Sam I tries several Chinese el cheapo headsets and they all worked but Plantronics seemed to be the absolute best. I thing the PS3 is going to eventually reign supreme once the network is sorted out and they have a good selection of games.. I noticed today that all HK versions of PS3 games are selling at $270 which is cheaper than Xbox360 games ($299).

BT do u have to coonect yout controllers (using the wires) each time u start the console, or is it a one-time thing? peace

They only need to be connected if you need to recharge the internal battery.

Everyone please do not waste your time and money on the PS3. It is the SAME AS THE XBOX. The xbox has more power. This is a fact. The ps3 has so much hype about there god damn lol, 6 sell processor...but the thing is none of there games have beeen designed to push the ps3s hardware that far..as for the 50gb bluray discs, no game will be 50gb for the next 6 to 7 years, you know why...?? because no game programmer will ever need to make a game that big....look at the xbox 1's Grand Theft auto san andreas ...that was a massive game all in 3gbs ....and look at the 360s massive game called Mass Effect that is a mere 6gbs!!!! Microsoft will also be realeasing a developers program called XNA TOOLS wich will make it easy...very easy to make and create your own xbx 360 games using your computer....and burn them....Playstation on the other hand requires programmers to learn some new languages and experament with the new blu-ray discs.....and they have to code in the traditional c# or c++ languages....Also it costs 1000's of dollars to buy a development system...whereas Microsoft is allowing programmers to install XNA onto there xbox's and create and test there games and sometime in the next year or so,... programmers will have there own section on the xbox live marketplace....where they can sell or just post up demos or full versions of their games for people to test out and comment on or buy..Microsofts main idea is to make it easyier for programers and developent comanys to make and produce games...its also a much cheaper and effective way....Microsoft also wants to infuse new fresh ideas into the gaming industry. Halo 3 will also up microsofts sales by alot....and the halo movie set to launch end of 2007 or early 2008. Microsoft will also be realeasing a service called live anywhere wich enables you to acsess xbx live from your Mobile and your windows vista PC. They will also have cross platfrom live wich will for example if someone has a game on the PC that is also available on Xbx360 then they can play cross consol live...
Please stick with Microsoft, you will not regret it. BTW both my parents work for microsoft and have been for over 15 years. I will keep you posted on whats going on. And if you are wondring why i am in india it is because they are sechedualed on an overseas assingment. I am from Vancouver canada but i acutally live in Redmond Washington and have my whole life..lol but its just me, my mom, and my dad the rest of the family is in Vancouver so we have one house in Redmond and One in Vancouver and every friday night we drive to Vancouver wich takes 2hrs and we comeback before monday. -
