Yo people, check this : www.xbox-360.co.za/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2766It seems in SA (South Africa)they already have it why are we left in the dark all the time..!!! it just pisses me off. What Mohit said about the game coming this week maybe true, but it could also mean that he used it as a way to calm everyone down coz everybody was getting restless (inculding me ) buying him more time. Info: It seems the PAL version is region free as one of the members pointed out.

piracy is a factor. BUT you have to understand that MS India is not mastering/replicating Xbox 360 games in India themselves. they simply place an order with the publisher in charge for the indian territory and negotiate a price (either based on volumes or a lumpsum). Piracy becomes an issue when the publisher hands over a master which is sent to replication plant (local or international) by the indian importer/distributor (in this case MS India), where they could tinker with the order quantities.
Most of the backups available in the market are imported from asian countries (china/hong kong/taiwan). Some vendors are technically qualified enough to grab isos off the net and burn copies on +DL media themselves. they do not need a game to launch in the market in order to pirate it.
COPY PASTE FROM AN OLDER POST OF MINE:
my opinions are based on the very little experience i gained from running india's first gaming magazine and being involved with the largest distributor of games in india:
firstly there's the chicken and egg conundrum -- MS needs to create a strong enough base for the X360 in india. they will try and get 1st party (developed inhouse) and 2nd party (published by MS) games quickly into india. that's a given.
3rd party publishers will possibly wait and watch (to gauge market potential) before deciding on a firm release calendar for india. plus it takes time to build relations with large publishers who don't want to be bothered about small markets like india, and prefer to club them with some other territory. so cutting through red tape is also an issue.
then there's the problem of correctly estimating the potential for each and every game you want to release in the market, which is based on a number of factors (the price you can haggle with a publisher, the lag in release schedules, the genre of the game which is used as a yardstick of success, etc). meanwhile some part time players try and fill the void by bulk importing and marketing a few popular titles from foreign distributors (some publishers are nonchalant about this practise since it results in bidding wars and helps their bottom line for smaller markets) which adds to the confusion.
All in all, it's a mess and it only results in delays and a few titles never seeing the light of day. BUT if enough x360s sell through, then these problems will sort themselves out

PS: I'm temped to call MS India (speifically the Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division) a bunch of lying b******s who take their customers for granted, but i won't...

Its probably easier to duplicate a disc than for someone to be bothered with Downloading and burning it.
The biggest producers for fake games & movies FYI is China and Pakistan. China has started cracking down on software pirates pretty heavily of late and a few were executed last week. The Chinese pirates are more into up market items these days like cars and luxury goods. Software and Movies seem to be on the decline.
The HK/TW piracy scene is dead and has been dead for over 4 years. There are a few ragtag guys dealing in fakes but they get busted in a matter of weeks. Lately modded machines are also becoming scarce as MS has started taking strict legal action against modders. There is a law due to be passed here next year that makes it illegal to even have counterfeit items in your possession or in your home.
Also a few hundred GTs in China, some in HK and Taiwan were locked a few weeks ago. The media here believes that it has something to do with counterfeits and/or hacked consoles being used on Live.
I recommend that if the SA version is Pal and zone free you guys should consider ordering it from there or from the UK. I really hope you guys get GOW soon as I feel that its totally unfair to isolate the Indian gamers.

Its probably easier to duplicate a disc than for someone to be bothered with Downloading and burning it. true if you're talking about top-level organised piracy rings. but small grey market vendors and end-users offering backups will find it easier to download the isos (properly ripped with SS, DMI, PFI data injected into them) than grab a retail disc, use specialised software to rip the game, waste precious hours trying to inject security hacks into the rips and finally testing their work on +DL media. easier/cheaper/whatever to simply download a working iso from a *ahem* 'reputable' warez release group and use clonecd/pioneer/verbatim for a working copy. it still dosent make much sense to jump into the modding scene right now,as it is europe always gets FU(ked by the publishers ps3 anyone,so a bit of screwing with indian gamers is no big deal.again i think the problem is with the customs department where they usually take unnecessary time( maybe busy with aishwarya's case) current update by mohit states that the game has reached warehouses and is shipping to retailers
