The HD-DVD add-on for X360 is a pretty stupid concept IMO. why would anyone want to buy an add-on just to watch a hd-dvd movie using X360, while they can get a better one for almost the same cost on a ps3 !
If MS releases games in hd-dvd format then add-on makes sense....else its a total waste !

They won't release games on HD-DVD for a while. If they did, that would make obvious that M$ rushed out 360 without thinking ahead. Also it would make an year-old console outdated and force gamers to buy the add-on. That would be very embarrassing, foot-in-the-mouth situation for M$. They only released it to match feature by feature with PS3.

^^^ by simultaneously putting brave face against the competitor by saying that we(MS) are providing a product cheaper than yours and letting the consumer decide whether or not they want this feature.

i think HDDVD games are gonna come very soon....coz 8gb is just not enuff for the developers..!!
also, this would be a very good strategy for MS to earn a lot since everyone would want to buy the HDDVD player....

wont happen soon, they will recieve amazing backlash from the media and gamers, this is where sony and co need to come to the party and wipe out hddvd quickly because if they do then MS has no choice other than add a bluray player to the box

I do believe that M$ will need to start allowing developers the freedom to utilise the HD-DVD format for games. Just take a look at Blue Dragon which spans 3 DVDs. I am suddenly taken back to the days of Final Fantasy VII 's 3 disc jewel case on the PS 1. (Incidentally, FF is also a product of Sakaguchi, the creator of Blue Dragon).
It seems pretty ridiculous that M$ would force developers to span games across 3 discs when a ready alternative is available. At least allow developers to offer both options i.e. 3 DVDs or 1 HD-DVD. This would make the move to HD-DVD a lot less painful for the serious gamers.

They might release two versions of a game, one in HD-DVD for those who have the add-on and other one spanning in multiple DVDs for "older" 360s, costing about the same.

more the solutions more dumb it sounds to me... there would be some transition period for which they would be doing this, till everybody upgrades to HD player. Nonetheless its dumb on MS' part which would look like lack of foresight. Apart from this with such announcement, all i can say is the 360 sales will drop and many would be auctioned off on ebay.

MS would be in a lot of trouble if they started releasing games only on HDDVD...even if they do release a new xbox 360 version with hd-dvd drive....that would mean theyre forcing existing xbox 360 owners to pay $100 for an add-on
