UK, April 18, 2007 - Codemasters has announced it has a triple-whammy of new titles in the pipeline for 2008, including a sequel to Operation Flashpoint, an all-new game called Rise of the Argonauts and the latest instalment in the TOCA series. The latter, provisionally titled Race Drive One, will be based on an updated version of the Neon engine that's already causing a stir in Colin McRae DiRT and will take in locations from all across Europe, Japan and the US. In addition to the touring car races made famous in previous games, Race Driver One will also feature new events like street races and urban street competitions, although a Codemasters spokesman was quite adamant it won't follow the same path as Need for Speed Underground.
Operation Flashpoint 2 will also utilise the Neon engine and is being developed in-house rather than by Bohemia Interactive, the team behind the original. Although few details are known about the game as yet, it's already been in development for two years and Codemasters promises it will offer "a new contemporary theatre of war" and "will deliver warfare more realistic and intense than ever before". The multiplayer game is set to be more extensive too, although precise details about what features the game will include won't be announced until the summer.
Last up is Rise of the Argonauts, an epic-scale action RPG game set in Ancient Greece. Developed by Liquid Entertainment, players lead a team of fearsome warriors, including Hercules, Atalanta and Jason, across a land ruled by mythological gods. Although little else is known about the game at present, "deep exploration and epic quests" are certainly a given.
All three games are scheduled for release next year on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. We'll bring you more details later in the year.
