Reports have been steadily trickling in since yesterday of stockpiles of Playstation 3s found sitting around in Best Buys untouched, or hardly touched. Best Buy announced they would be selling a bunch of the consoles starting Sunday and according to several emailers, very few people took them up on their offer. Of course this is all anecdotally, so I'm not sure how widespread it is. What I can tell you is that the Best Buy near my house had 31 Playstation 3s sitting in a lovely wall o' consoles this morning when I swung by the store. Many, if not all of them, were the 60GB model. While taking pictures of the stack load of PS3s (and the nearby wall of Xbox 360s, twice the size) someone came buy and plucked one up. He happened to be right next to me when I was paying for my stuff and I heard him saying that the main reason he decided to get it was because it offered up games at 1080p and he wanted to see what it looked like on his plasma. It appeared he was also buying a Blu-ray movie and a copy of Madden for the system. I can't help but wonder if this seeming lack of interest in the PS3 at Best Buys is because of a general post-holiday buying drought or something more about the system itself. It certainly doesn't look good, especially when coupled with the details were reported on last week about the PS3's grey market. Major stock shortages in Hong Kong/ Tw/ China/ Sg at the moment with 4 month long wait lists on the 60GB model. I was in the States recently and kids are desperate to get their hands on the 60 Gb models. There are quite a few 20Gb models that are not moving.
You should not rely on websites for all your info.

Its pretty difficult to pick up a 60GB model in the US these days. I have seen comments on engadget claiming that there were hundreds of Ps3's languishing on storeshelves in several stores in the Dallas area. I went to those stores and spoke to the staff who laughed when I asked them. This is why I tend not to rely on websites for info. Edit: Sony seems to encourage dealers to stack up empty PS3 boxes and this is often very deceptive. They have been doing this in HK since launch.

PS3 has certainly had a bad start. I guess that Microsoft and its Xbox 360 will finally prove its supremacy in the gaming world. Well atleast I hope so. I mean I have had the orignal Xbox and now the Xbox 360 when I could have got the PS2 and PS3 or the Wii instead of them. So it's pretty obvious that I prefer Microsoft to anything else when it comes to gaming

gamerevolution.com/news/view.php?id=2140Sony shipped 1 mil PS3s to America in 2006 At the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show, Sony announced that it had managed to ship one million of the highly coveted consoles to North American retailers in 2006. This met the company's projections for 2006.
But Sony stopped short of giving a worldwide update on PlayStation 3 shipments, so it's impossible to say whether the company met its worldwide goal of shipping two million PS3s globally by the end of 2006.
Sales numbers are still slow in coming from Sony, though the company did sell just under 200,000 PS3s on its launch day. That's half what Sony had predicted, and likely due to Blu-ray component shortages that have hampered the console's supply worldwide.
The AP spoke with Sony's senior director of communications, Dave Karraker, who told them the company is airlifting in more PS3s in order to meet tight supply.
Karraker also poo-pooed the surge of holiday sales for the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. "Are we worried about strong sales of the Wii or Xbox 360? Not really," he told the AP. "It was a great year for the industry overall. With the tide all ships rise."shipped? that doesn't mean all of them were actually sold, right?

What's the point in going over sales figures? Does it matter to anyone other than Sony or MS? Who cares which system outsells the other? All most of us care about are the games and believe me each of the systems will have titles exclusive to that particular system.
I recommend spending the time Gaming instead of digging up link after link trying to prove which system outsells the other.
I love my 360 and enjoy the PS3 and the Wii just as much. As an owner of all 3 systems I feel that each of them is unique in their own special way so get em all if you can and stop trying to prove that one is better than the other just because you don't have it.

@alt My message wasn't directed at you in particular If you do have the chance pick up a PS3. Its a different experience from the 360 and so is the Wii. I absolutely love my 360 and especially XBL but I also spend a lot of time on my PS3 and the PSN which is a different ball game but just as fun. I am looking forward to the new and updated Xbox360

but it does seem that way, doesn't it? that i'm trying to say this 'hey look, the ps3 ain't selling. long live the 360.' actually that was not what i meant eventhough it may seem like that. but i sometimes tend to get a little biased towards the console i own.
