Ok this question must be ringing for new console buyers that which one to buy PS3 vs Xbox 360. Here is my take on this topic.
PS3 is super heavy duty machine with awesome games but it is not doing good on online gaming part. Games are super expensive and support is limited as of now.
Xbox 360 is well established in world and India. Plenty of support available. Rocks in online gaming. Games are ok priced. Lot of titles available.
Xbox 360 has DVD games whereas PS3 has Blu ray games. 360 has region encoded games so a particular region game will work only in that region. Xbox 360 comes in 4 flavors :
NTSC - U/C (US/Canada 110v) NTSC - J (Japan 110v) NTSC - Asia(Rest of Asia 220v) PAL (UK,Europe,Australia,India 220v)
PS3 games are universal and Blu Ray can carry 60 GB of data in one disc so expect humongous games.
I would go for xbox 360 if I was to choose looking at current scenario. If you are a serious online gamer go for 360. Graphics are look alike for PS3 and Xbox 360 though PS3 will beat 360 in graphics in maybe later titles. What say???

www.gamespot.com/features/6162742/p-1.htmlWe expected the PlayStation 3 to ship with several games that first appeared on the Xbox 360, similar to how the Xbox 360 had a lot of Xbox ports at launch. And the PS3 did indeed arrive with a good number of games that originally shipped for the Xbox 360. This gave us the perfect opportunity to compare the graphics on both systems with several cross-platform games. You'd think that the PS3 versions would be exactly the same or slightly superior to the Xbox 360 versions, since many of these games appeared on the 360 months ago, but it seems like developers didn't use the extra time to polish up the graphics for the PS3. We found that the Xbox 360 actually had better graphics in the majority of the games we compared.
We're going to give the PS3 the benefit of the doubt in this initial round since developers might need more time to figure out how to maximize performance from the Cell and the RSX. The trouble with buying a console at launch is that you often have to wait for the second or third generation of games for the system to fulfill its potential. The PS3 didn't beat the 360 in this first comparison, but the games do look fine for first-generation titles. The real graphics battle will likely come next year.V

www.smartmoney.com/news/PR/index.cfm?story=PR-20061207-000880-0858Xbox Scores First Round Knock Out of PS3H3 Enterprises, Inc. reported this morning that in a totally unbiased side-by-side face-off on H3TV, witnessed by cameras from CNBC and BET as well as a slew of magazine and newspaper reporters, Xbox 360 administered a convincing beat-down to it's highly sought after rival, PS3.
As a result of H3TV's split screen cyber technology, the overflow crowd was able to witness the two rival gaming consoles being played on the same 1080p monitor at the same time. Utilizing EA Sports' "Fight Night" on both consoles, H3TV was able to give the enthusiastic audience was given a clear view of the head-to-head imagery and graphics of the competing systems.
Many of Harlem's top rappers and "Fight Night" aficionados were given the opportunity to participate and experience the varied features that both consoles offer. The final results were unanimous and resounding.
"Xbox is flat-out better both visually and mechanically," said H3's chief communications officer and world class gamer, Adrian "Hollywood" Walton. "When 'Fight Night' is played at its highest level with the highest possible resolution, everyone was able to see Xbox 360's superiority to PS3 as clear as can be on H3TV." V

If you wanna buy now, then 360 is the way to go, since it has better library with better graphics. PS3 simply has "ported" games from 360. But if you can hold on for a year, then its PS3 without doubt. Next year totally belongs to PS3. Look at their lineup, DMC4, MGS4, R&C, GT5, GOW2, UTk07, Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and many more exclusives. And although PS3 has lost exclusiveness of Assassin's Creed and GTA franchise, they are still coming out at same time as 360. MS' only trump card next year is Halo 3. Just as Bill Gates said holiday'07 is when the real competition begins. Or as BP said, you can buy both if you can afford. Remember, a console is only as good as its games, graphics doesn't matter much. MGS3 can kick-a$$ any SC on any clear day .

i hope sony gets its PSN issues sorted out as well -- they should offer xfire as a part of their sdk to developers, rather than a paid-for addon...

you've forgotten mass effect and bioshock for the 360. I was talking about genre defining titles and their sequels that gamers wait for years. Very few exclusives on Xbox had fan-following like PS2 and same thing is happening all over again. Tell me one game you've been desperately waiting for months and months that's coming out next year only on 360 (other that Halo 3).

I own both systems and IMO after using both I find the PS3 to be far superior than the 360. In 6-12 months the PS3 is going to be the console to own. Here is NE Asia no one wants the 360 or 360 games anymore. The second hand stores are full of used 360's for sale and 360 games. The reasons I prefer the 360 is - XBL at the moment is far better than the PS Network. XBL was crap when it first launched last year which many of you guys don't really know as you did not own a 360 on launch. - Decent selection of games but Sony will have a larger selection witin 12 months. I am really annoyed that MS has done noting to fix the overheating issues and the update crash problems..Its been a year since launch and they still cannot fix this. I have had to have my console replaced 3 times and last week I was old by the MS rep that perhaps I was playing online too much which could be the reason of the crash..WTF??? I suggest that before you guys make any comments on which system is better..try them both out. Once you use the PS3 for a few days it's hard going back to the 360. ...and like I said in an earlier post..why not buy both

so you mean that only sequels to pop franshises are worth waiting for? if that was the case, no publisher would take the risk of building new IPs, and sequels/licensed frachises would be the only way to guarantee success...
i personally prefer to get excited about games from particular development studios -- bioware has not disappointed me till date and MASS EFFECT is THE game i'm waiting for.
V
ps: infact some publishers can ruin franchises by getting another studio to work on a sequel...

Its a sad fact, but sequels do sell more. Look at IGN's "lust list" for PS3. At any given week, there are atleast 7 out of 10 games that are sequels/prequels. And making a sequel to an overly popular game is never easy. Developers can not just 'Encash' their franchise. Look at DMC2, Prince of Persia 2, RE2/2.5/3. These games weren't bad. But they were compared to previous titles and disgraced.
Every successful game has had a sequel or prequel. Many had more than three. So there's nothing wrong with them.

sequels arent a bad thing -- every developer/publisher working on an original IP hopes that their game gets accepted enough so that they can follow it up with a few more games (and a few enterprising studios factor this into the design document itself)
BUT i have a problem when publishers look at popular franchises as cash cows and an easy way to make money by releasing episodic content -- i need some innovations to keep me interested.
